Dubai Culture

Dubai is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, as well as one of the most culturally diverse places in the world. The economic expansion has further expanded the migration of foreign people to Dubai. Thus its culture is getting even more diverse in its nature. It has been noted by research, that the first people to migrate to the Dubai region were the Iranians, who were then followed by Pakistanis and Indians.

Though Dubai is a global city, the official religion followed there is Islam. However, many different religions are also practiced there due to so many immigrants. Just as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhist, Christians and others are all allowed to practice their own individual religions, they are also allowed to establish their religious temples in which to worship.

Similarly, in terms of languages, it can be said that Dubai is a universal city.  Though Arabic is the official language, English is used while speaking most of the time. Several other languages are also widely used, such as Hindi and Tagalog of Philippines.

There are several different festivals that are celebrated in Dubai. The most famous ones are Ramadan, Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha. Other events include the Dubai shopping festivals, National day celebrations, Dubai world cup, Dubai desert classic and Dubai Summer surprises to name a few.

There are usually ten holidays in a year according to Dubai culture. Most of the holidays are included from Islamic calendar like the event of the Mairaj, and Eid Milad un nabi, and a holiday on the onset of the month of Ramadan, as well as on the events of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha. The other holidays include the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Additionally, another important holiday comes on the second of December which marks the event of the formation of the United Arab Emirates and the adoption of Dubai’s Dirham.

Cuisine in Dubai

Dubai is a sort of cosmopolitan city.  It is full of people who have come from different countries and who have chosen to settle here, hence Dubai now has a large diversity in its culture. As such, the cuisine also touches various taste buds. Although Arabic food is the major type of cuisine being found in Dubai, there are many other options as well. This is due largely to the huge demand from the many expatriates that have come to live in Dubai.  Some of the most popular dishes are the regional, and Dubai’s own cultural foods.

One such dish is Shawarma, which is made from chicken. The chicken is usually mixed up with tomatoes, garlic, fries and pickle. It just looks like a kebab. Its taste, as well as the other ingredients, differs from one restaurant to the other. It is one of the most well-known foods in Dubai. People from different regions eat it and enjoy its taste.

Another favorite is the Falafel. It has been termed as the Arabic French fry. It has the appearance of something close to a cutlet. They are made by mixing chickpeas with spices and they have a unique taste. They are cooked by deep frying them and are usually served as an additional dish to compliment the main dish.

One other kind of food is the Arabic bread sometimes called Arabic roti. It is one of the many wonderful cuisines found in Dubai. It is baked in clay ovens and then it is served along with different dishes. They are very tasty when they have been freshly baked. People mostly eat them with Indian curries. It is unique bread baked in Dubai.

Dubai also has some fruit juices that are so delicious in their taste that people from different cultures desire to enjoy them. They are available at nearly every corner shop. They are unique in their taste, since no other juices such as these have been found anywhere else in the world.

It should also be noted that in addition to these traditional food items there are also international foods available in Dubai. Just as an example, Dubai has fast food restaurants such as McDonalds and KFC. One good thing about cuisine in Dubai is that it’s cheap and easily available everywhere.  Dubai also has Indian food available in various restaurants and Indian cuisine is generally the least expensive of all the types in Dubai.

All the different food items can be found in the various hotels and restaurants in Dubai. Many people have chosen to simply take up residence in the hotels in Dubai because in addition to offering a wide variety of food choices at reasonable rates, the cost of housing is just as reasonable and convenient.
