The Mike and Michele Story (Post #1)

This is our first blog for our around the world travels. Here are a few pictures of us, doing what we love – running!

We met at a 35-mile race in Southern Virginia called Holiday Lake 50k++ on February 14th 2003 and began dating the 2nd of the following August. During the period from mid-June 2003 through present we have spent a great many hours running together through forests, over mountains and across deserts during both training runs and races. While we’ve each run 100-mile races of our own, the longest distance we ever ran together was 50 miles at Mt. Hood in July of 2004.

Between the fall of 2004 and the spring of 2005 we decided to leave our jobs (patent examiner and social research scientist) in the suburbs of washington, D.C. to learn more the world around us.

“man is a little germ who lives on an unimportant rock ball that resolves about an insignificant star on the outer edge of one of the smaller galaxies”–intro to Deeds of Flesh album ‘Inbreeding the Anthropophagi’. (A favorite quote of Mike´s.)

We hope the forthcoming blog posts will serve to effectively chronicle our experiences during both the pre-trip planning phases and the expedition itself so read on and follow us throughout the next year!

We love blog comments but if for some reason you want to say something to us more directly, please email us — mikeandmichelertw at hotmail dot com (appropriate puctuation changes will be required of course).

    I think you should change your quote on the main page. Suggested replacement:

    “Then God way up in heaven,
    for whatever it was worth,
    thought he’d have a big ol’ party;
    thought he’d call it planet Earth”.

    -Bob Weir

    Have a great time checkin’ out the party!

    I look back on your other posts, caught on to this one and felt I should complement to you both. Your have a good thing going for you both. Moreover, this feeling is assured by the obvious fact that you like to contriburte to others some of your experiences in your travels.

    Mr. Roger M. Christian
