Mike´s Hair cut and Going Away Party (Post #2)

May 24th, 2005

Our pre-trip preparation included Mike going for a less care hair”style”:

Mike underwent a similar transformation (from longhair to a shaved head) during college so this all seems a little familiar to him. Michele, on the other hand, nearly had a heart attack – but has since recovered.

Before we left Michele´s co-workers threw here an awesome party with food from all around the world. However, because it was a surprise party, there are no pictures. Our Virginia Happy Trails Running Club friends also had a great going away party for us. You can see a slide show of that party by clicking
(here) (The slide show may take a minute to load so be patient…it will happen!)

The Mike and Michele Story (Post #1)

May 23rd, 2005

This is our first blog for our around the world travels. Here are a few pictures of us, doing what we love – running!

We met at a 35-mile race in Southern Virginia called Holiday Lake 50k++ on February 14th 2003 and began dating the 2nd of the following August. During the period from mid-June 2003 through present we have spent a great many hours running together through forests, over mountains and across deserts during both training runs and races. While we’ve each run 100-mile races of our own, the longest distance we ever ran together was 50 miles at Mt. Hood in July of 2004.

Between the fall of 2004 and the spring of 2005 we decided to leave our jobs (patent examiner and social research scientist) in the suburbs of washington, D.C. to learn more the world around us.

“man is a little germ who lives on an unimportant rock ball that resolves about an insignificant star on the outer edge of one of the smaller galaxies”–intro to Deeds of Flesh album ‘Inbreeding the Anthropophagi’. (A favorite quote of Mike´s.)

We hope the forthcoming blog posts will serve to effectively chronicle our experiences during both the pre-trip planning phases and the expedition itself so read on and follow us throughout the next year!
