We Did it

Hey everyone.

Well we finally booked our trip around the world this morning! I am soexcited (and a little aprehensive about the hostage takers, bird flu, drugtrafikers using us as mules, police chopping our hands off for spitting out gum in Singapore etc etc).

We are leaving the UK on 15 May. Fifteen weeks and counting. The planis tohave a bit of a leaving party on the 29th April in Leeds. Will keep you all informed of date and venue when confirmed….. but needless to say you are all invited.

We are leaving on a jet plane (don’t know when we’ll be back again! -lyrics mum I promise!) on 15 May at 19.40 hours. First stop Madrid where we have to wait 10hours for a connection (gutted – but its for the greater good!).

From Madrid we fly to Lima (Peru) where the only solid plan so far is to trek the Inca trail. Four days of camping and no hair dryer! More importantly peeing behind a bush. Are there bushes?

From Peru we will be carting our rucksacks to Bolivia where we have been warned to be prepared for a culture shock. From Bolivia we head down through Chile to Santiago. Needless to say it would be rude not to sample many of Chile’s famous wines whilst we are there.

After six weeks in South America we fly to Auckland on 30 June (arrive 2 July)- yes we lose a day when we cross the date line! Weird huh! Can’t seem to get my little head around that one. Thought we would get it back again but have been told that we would only clawback the missing 24hours if we fly back the way we came (but that wouldn’t be round the world would it!)

At least I wil not age as fast (or will I? – still cant get head round it!).

Two months scheduled for New Zealand where we hope to hire a camper van, glacier walk and white water raft – jury out on skydiving and bungee jumping (well for me) although we have taken out comprehensive insurance!.

From New Zealand we are scheduled to fly to Fiji on 3 August where we spend 3 weeks of doing very little. Dont think the weather will be brilliant when we are there but hey! at least we won’t be at work!

From Fiji we fly to Sydney where will inevitably have to work fro three or so months. Chris is keen to catch one of the Ashes matches if possible fingers crossed. After working we will travel up the East coast via places like Byron Bay, Fraser Island, the Whitsundays up to Cairns in the North.

At which time it should be Scorchio in Cairns. In Cairns I definately intend to go scuba diving on the great barrier reef. For those of you who know Chris (most of you) you will be fully aware of his irrational fear of Sharks (even in the med) so it may well be this part of the trip is carried out alone whilst Chris is in the nearest drinking hole having a few tinnies!

Strewth!

From Cairns we head to Singapore with only polos to freshen the breath(no chewing gum allowed remember?). The plan is to travel up through Malaysia and Thailand to Bangkok (taking in the beaches/forrests and temples en route!). We will then use Bankok as a base to travel out to Vietnam and

Cambodia before returning to Bankok to fly home.

Cue prozac!

Lots of love to you all.

Charlotte (and Chris)
