May 16, 2005Water Mill
These machines are common in Chung's village. They are used to separate the rice from the husk. The water fills the basin, the weight of which lifts the heavy pestel on the other end. As the basin spills the water it raises again and the pestel comes smashing down on the rice. Later Chung's mom will take the rice out and use a seive to sift the grains from the husks.
