May 14, 2005Water Puppets
A traditional are form in Vietnam is water puppetry. This makes sense since Vietnam is so full of water! The marionettes are controlled with sticks from the bottom by puppeteers who stand behind the screen waist deep in water. The bottom of the stage is water - so you can't see the sticks or the puppeteers' hands. The puppets dance and dash around in and out of the water depicting scenes of traditional Vietnamese life and it's really fun to watch. It is accompanied by beautiful classical music.
