March 30, 2005CaoDai Temple in Danang
Nam and I stopped by just in time for the 6pm service. CaoDai is a religion developed in the 20th century, a combination of five major world religions using bits and pieces from each. Over the alter hangs a portrait of five disciples, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, and some others I forgot! Prayers are held every day at 6am, 12pm, 6pm, and 12am. The women and men must enter and worship on different sides of the building. Kneeling on cushions they chant in time with a rhythmic 'ping'. A kind monk gave us a tour and explained the rules to make sure we entered through the right doors and took our shoes off at the right places, etc. Comments
Ruth, this is a great shot, what a wild eye! I have never seen anything like that. Posted by: Susan on April 2, 2005 01:12 PM |
