September 02, 2005Mamanuca Islands
Naomi, Eve and I left Niviti reluctantly and boarded the boat to the sounds of a farewell song to our respective destinations. I got off at Bounty Island and was met by a small boat to take me ashore. I left my stuff in the dorm room and went for a walk on the beautiful sandy beach covered with bits of coral and shells. I walked for around 20 minutes and found myself back where I'd started as the island was pretty small. The sunset was gorgeous and it was great to be on such a tiny patch of land in the middle of the Pacific, sipping a cocktail, looking out over the water. The next day, I sat in the shade and read my book, then kayaked around the island in the turquoise, clear water, peering over the side of my little vessel at the royal blue starfish, bright fish and massive outcrops of coral (I floated over one that was the size of a Smart car!). I left that afternoon and headed back to the mainland. |
