October 08, 2004Biography
Born 1966 in England, Rolf Gibbs grew up in Indonesia and New Zealand. At eighteen, he embarked on a 10-year career as a photographer (fashion/people) while living in Paris, London and Berlin, respectively. To become a film director, he attended NYU's Graduate Film Program in New York. His short films "Whacked!","The Last Guy to Let You Down" and "G", became some of the most successful short films of recent years, winning numerous awards at over 40 film festivals in 20 countries. Upon leaving NYU, Gibbs was commissioned by ARTE to direct "e-male", a short film made in London and broadcast on German and French television. From New York, Rolf moved to Los Angeles, where he has been living for the past four years. Two years attendance at the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert changed him for the better, as did his travels throughout eastern and southern Africa in early 2004.
