April 01, 2004Gearing Up
So how does one decide what to take on a trip for 6 months!? The list seems to get longer and longer each day and with only a 65 Liter pack to work with, I'm starting to wonder if there will be any room for clothes among the camera equipment, phone equipment, their respective chargers and voltage converters, and of course the handy dandy xd card reader/cd burner/dvd player/show your slide show on TV thingy I picked up the other day to solve my "what if theres no cd burners in Africa and I can't dump the pics on my xd card" dilemma. So now not only can I burn cds of my pics to mail home, I will not be without a DVD player in the event that my camping safari happens across a Blockbuster in the middle of the Namibian desert. Yippee! At this rate I'm going to have to buy a sleeping bag that rolls up to the size of my fist. Comments
I have a solution for your lack of room for a sleeping bag. The BUDDY system! :) This way you won't need a sleeping bag! Posted by: Sherry on April 2, 2004 07:36 AMDon't forget you can halve your underwear allocation and save precious space if you wear them inside-out the second time around. A handy tip picked up somewhere along the way.... Posted by: Kynan on April 2, 2004 08:56 AMMichelle, looks like you'll be traveling with more technology than a Star Trek away team. Mr. Sulu would be jealous! If you need a blanket, I have one of those NASA thermal films that might be useful. It retains up to 80% body heat... Who needs underwear when you're warm and toasty like that! In fact, its big enough and durable enough that with your Martha Stewart-like sewing abilities, you could fashion some pretty quasi-futuristic threads with it... Well, that's if you're into gold-aluminized mylar. Posted by: Ferd on April 5, 2004 07:08 AMOh Ferd. You are so funny! Posted by: Sherry on April 5, 2004 08:27 AMI ddin't know you took Home Ec! Let's see see of those creations. Posted by: Kynan on April 8, 2004 09:16 PMKynan, would you like a beaded fringed purse made out of mylar also? ;) Posted by: Michelle on April 13, 2004 11:26 AMHe better not get a purse before I do!
