Curses!

October 28th, 2009

So I said I would post again when Ryanair has another sale. Well its happening right now. Unfortunately none of the destinations or dates really work out for us. We have however found where we want to go next. Carcassonne, France. It looks beautiful and the hotels are pretty nicely priced. So next time Ryanair has a sale that works for us!

That travel bug is definitely eating at me though. Last night I was dreaming about traveling in India. Which is amazing because I’ve never wanted to travel in India. Well thats not true. I’d love to go to India. But its the trendy place to go right now. I don’t want to be one of those trendy types. I like being able to say I’ve been to strange places no ones heard of. Maybe someday I’ll make it there. But if not, no big deal.

Airports: Sacramento, California

October 24th, 2009

Name: Sacramento International Airport
IATA Code: SMF
Number of Airlines: 15

Sacramento International Airport was my home airport for nearly nine years. In all that time though I never managed to fly from Terminal B. This is because the majority of the time I was flying from there I always went on Southwest. The International part of the International airport is very small and for a long time I even questioned if it was used at all. But, according to the wiki page on the airport there are flights to Mexico on Mexicana.

Since I only know half the airport I won’t go into great detail about the layout. Just know that there are food places on each side of security in both terminals and that if you get there too early or late the majority of the airport will be closed.

There is only one form of public transportation to and from the airport. A county bus which will take you to downtown Sacramento. Which really is a very good location as from there you can get local buses as well as Greyhound and with a small walk you can get to an Amtrak station.

Sacramento is a lovely little airport which I would recommend to anyone looking for an alternative to San Francisco but staying within the US. This is not a good airport to spend the night in and I’m not even sure if you would be allowed to.

Where did I go?

October 23rd, 2009

So, you might be asking. Where did that crazy Lady Doyle run off to? The answer is…nowhere. Our friend Taffy came over to visit. That was fantastic. We had a wander through the Archaeology museum, always lovely. Then he went home. Sad face. Ryanair has had many more sales which we have oooed at but ultimately passed up. But I think this next one. Where ever it may be to we will take! We need to get away. I’m starting to get the itch again. No, not that itch…the itch for which no cream could cure! The travel itch!

I’ve been looking at various places around Ireland as an alternative to leaving, and a few places have jumped out at me. Unfortunately they also seem to involve more walking than I want to do or are in the middle of nowhere, and thus…you guessed it! More walking. Plenty of places to see in the rest of Europe anyhow.

Oh, I started following a travel blog. I think thats really what got the itch going. Especially with the most recent post about Amsterdam, somewhere that has always been on my list of places to see. Anyways, check him out. Certainly worth a read! http://www.nomadicmatt.com

I suppose thats all until Ryanair has another insane sale I can’t pass up!
