July 04, 2005Patiently Waiting...
Well, my parents have been visiting for the last week. I have to say this, I am pleasantly surprised by their ability to adapt to the laid back attitude here. Before I knew it, my dad was drinking sangria and relaxing at cafés. Almost a little unsettling. We came out of a restaurant and I walked them to the metro on Thursday night, it was just about 1am. Shocking... Being here, my father has picked up an unusual habit. He knows some Spanish. So, when he hears a word in English that he knows, he almost instantly says it in Spanish, in a loud voice, no matter what the setting. Crowded restaurant, train, street, who cares? For example, we were leaving a restaurant a few nights ago. My mother is walking out first and I say to her, "Mom, turn right leaving." My father, "D-E-R-E-C-H-O". Last night, I said, "Mom, be careful, there is a car coming." My father chimes on, "Cuidado." It probably doesn´t sound all that funny now, but you´ll have to trust me, it is hysterical. But, today is their last day. They have an early flight home, and I got an 8am bus to Pamplona to catch. Bags are packed and I am ready to go. I hope to write an entry tomorrow after I arrive in Pamplona. We´ll see if that happens. Comments
