Irish Pub

Been bartending at an Irish Pub the last couple of nights, filling in for their sick bartender. The money isn´t all to great, Mexicans in general don´t tip much, but it´s kind of fun. The pub is owned by Hector, who opened the pub after spending some time in Dublin. I´ll probably post more on this later, but it is interesting working in Mexico.

I work with a guy named Matt, or Mateo, from England. He is 21 but has round little glasses, he´s pretty small, and has a sort of page boy hair cut. As soon as you see him you instantly think ¨Harry Potter!¨ A fan club of sorts is forming in La Paz around him, some girls come in just to see Harry Potter.

I finished my Diver¨s Cert, and now I´m looking into advanced courses, such as Wreck Diving. There is an old ship Fang Ming that is scuttled in the Sea of Cortez, its a great wreck dive, and is one of a few artificial reefs in the area.

The Fang Ming was stopped by Mexican Authorities and was found to be running Chinese Immigrants to the United States. All of the passengers were returned to China, but the Fang Ming wasn´t so lucky. It was sunk purposefully by Mexico, and is some 50ft below sea level today.

I might be moving into the downstairs level of Gabriel´s house while I take some more courses from him. Gabriel is my dive instructor.

Tourist season is supposed to pick up soon.

It rained in the desert today,
little oily rivers flowed across the malecon,
the stores closed,
Rain pelted the roof over my sweaty bed.

Tomorrow it may rain again.

Will the hot dog vendor feed me
delicious cheese filled chomps of greasy hot dog,
grilled onions, cream, chiles, onion, tomatoes?

Will the still puddles splash black on my pants as I walk?
Will the crazy barefooted bum say hello?

Rain flows downhill, washing the city´s dirt to the sea.
Us too, someday, I pray.
From the sea rain comes and to the sea it returns.

Eric, my lad.
What a wonderful experience to work in an Irish pub. I can see you now. Are you doing any serenading?

No no serenading yet. Not really working either. I went to work lastnight and spent a couple of hours eating dinner at the pier.
