New Dispatches from Abroad

My sister in Thailand shares some of her strange day:

Monks Amuk--An Average Day in the Life of Tina Teague

After school as I was getting on the bus, someone pulled hard on my back pack behind me.

I turned around and it was this old shiny bald monk in orange robes.

I was mortified, because a female can't hand a monk anything. She has to put it on the ground first to pick it up. And this monk touched something on me, so I didn't know if he had to go through the "cleansing process" again because of me, but anyway, I assumed whatever was happening, it was really bad. A lot of people were at the bus stop and they were all looking at me, and as I said, I was mortified and scared, and just jumped away from him, because if I accidentally touched him with my body in any way I would be in big trouble by onlookers. After I jumped out of his way to let him get on before me, he looked at me, waved his arm regally in the air, and said loudly with a smile, "O.K.!"

I was so confused. A monk shouldn't be able to touch something on me, and also that's really weird to have someone yank your bag from behind. Especially since it was just a small back pack purse, and i checked to see if he had yanked opened my bag to steal my wallet out. He hadn't. I was really confused.

Then, I got off the bus at a department store, and there was a Thai man wearing a Santa beard, hair, and white eyebrows, but wearing a Hawaiian shirt and no santa hat or anything. Then these kids with make up on, gathered around him and started acting, and I saw the cameras and a TV show was being shot. I walked around the corner and saw the monitors all set up for viewing. One of the girl actors even had freckles drawn on her face.

Then, I saw a full sized man climbing up a rope in a santa suit, but then I realized it was mechanical. Anyway, there's this normal/average brown rope suspended for 2 stories, and a santa is shimmying up it with a brown leather average-sized, empty-looking back pack on. It doesn't make any sense. I don't understand.
