Last Night in Morocco

Tonight is my last night in Morocco. I'm feeling a lot better than I was last night and I did some shopping in the souqs today. I tried to find stuff for people but it is just too difficult. I got a tea set which is really cool. I have been drinking so much mint tea or "Moroccan Whiskey" that I figured why not make it when I get home.

I will have time to reflect when I get back home. I still have to talk about my trip to the Sahara but I want to write about it when i'm feeling more creative and thoughtful with my words. I'm still just kind of "getting through" the day right now. I just showered and am heading into the square again for some night stall food. I catch my flight from to Madrid tomorrow morning at 11:40. I heard the taxi ride will cost me 120DH which is about $12 which is sooooo high priced compared to everything else. I have been asking for a ride to everywhere in Marrakesh for 10DH/$1 and it has been fine. It is so cheap here over all. Dinner has costed me $3.50 for more food than I can eat, lunch for literally .50 (with drink) if i feel up to eating light. I could live a long time here on a small amount of money with the right motivation. Unfortunately I have a little bit of extra money so I haven't exactly cut corners.

Last night was kind of crazy. Me and Liz were hanging out with Zach in the square after dinner and getting some ice cream. Next thing you know a man comes up to him and pulls him off to the side and chats with him for a few. The man nods over in our direction and then he walks off with him. Not sure what happened right away me and Liz stood around for a minute. 2 other guys came up to us and said "Zacharieh your friend will be back". Immediatly we were like, what is going on. Apparently that man was a police officer and they were pulling him away because they thought he was a faux guide and was showing us around. That wasn't the case but it is such a huge deal in Morocco with these fake guides that they don't mess around. I'm suprised they didn't talk to us about it first to see if he really was our guide. We had been hanging out a lot in the square and didn't have a problem. Turns out when they do this and they don't have the proper paperwork to show they are guides they get a manditory 2 nights in prison. So at this point I don't know what is going to happen and i'll be gone before I can find out. I kind of feel bad because it was hanging out with us that could have got him in trouble but at the same time maybe there is something I don't know about. It isn't worth too much concern on my part but I feel bad for Liz because they became pretty good friends. Hopefully everything works out in the end because I would hate to see a good person get in trouble for not doing anything wrong just because the police wanted to make some kind of point.

I think when I get back i'm going to right a travel story on relationships in Morocco and how you really don't know who is genuine and who is trying to take money from you. I would be lying if I said the process was easy. Some of these people are so nice yet you have this feeling in the back of your head that you are just a pawn to them. I think you could do a whole pyschological study on it and still not figure it out.
