September 28, 2004MSG straight up
I visited a Tibetan doctor this morning who lives below us (my homestay) and besides his initial comment (you have many problems) and after another 5 min he said my loom is blocked or out of balance and my heart is weak as well as immune system. The rest of the day I spent working at the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy, working on a brochure I am designing for them because the director is flipping out I sold my soul to her - I promised her all of my time next tuesday and friday if needed. As a side note I told the doctor I was traveling to Tibet and he said I have a favor. I need you to deliver precious pills, very rare/expensive, to my sister-in-law's father. If you come back right before you leave (james bond style) I will give them to you along with an address to find them. I was like ok, cool, anything to help you out. Language class is about to become exponentially harder - well it already is really - Nyimala decided to cover a whole lesson in one day - previously we've devoted a week to each one. The other night I was helping my pala make potato momos, he was showing me the spices - chicken masala, mutton masala and a strange white grain substance that looked like salt - He didn't know the english for it so he gave me some to taste test. I didn't recognize it and he said he thought it caused health problems with bones - moment of silence - realization washes over me and i started to laugh. I was like MSG? and he was like oh yeah. Awesome, I just ate MSG straight up. Comments
