September 20, 2004Tashi Jong
Today we went to Tashi Jong, a monastery and nunnery about an hour and a half from Dharamsala. We rode in these awesome land rovers that were really comfortable. We broke out the ipods and rocked the whole trip. It was so much fun and the whole way there I got the sense that we were travelling again, on the move, and it made me light-hearted. We got to Tashi Jong and heard Ani Tenzin Palmo, a nun originally from britain, talk about her experience meditating in a cave for 12 years. (not consecutively) It was very funny to see a very experienced nun speak with a british accent. And her eyes - they pierced right through any feeble facade you had put up for the rest of the world - when you looked into her eyes, they drew you in. We also saw a wood craft and metal working shop, in which the works were beautiful. By that time it was evening, so we drove back, with the view of the mountains in the background, spectacular in the setting sun. That night I stayed at the hotel, and ate dinner with a couple people from the group, Ian and Emma. I had tandoori chicken, which only made my stomach churn (because it was Indian). I ended up only getting 5 hrs of sleep and a lot of group dynamics that ocurred led me to the feeling that I need to rid myself of the group for a while. I realize I need to do things more independently, going with the flow and avoiding group dynamics. Comments
