And now, the good stuff about Delhi

Venting is good, but it's done. For now.

Delhi hasn't been all bad, just mostly annoying. Here's some of the good things that happened in Delhi:

  • Bengali Sweet Shop. Yum. Milk sweets, pistachio, chocolate... again, YUM. (Oh, and Claudia, the package has been delivered ;-)

  • Balancing the Books. Remember when I said that I kept track of expenses? That's all well and fine; Claudia says she has no head for that. Letting the writer do the math though, now that's just asinine. Claudia balanced the books, sorted out some math errors, and figured out that I'm not broke. Yet. Hallelujah — but from now on, the long addition is all her.

  • Barista & Chess. When in doubt in a big Indian city, just find a Barista. A/C, safe food and drink, and almost just like a coffee shop back home. It took us a while to find this one though, because Claudia was trying to remember where it was from her last time in Delhi. Connaught Place is a series of circles — it's fitting that that's what you're always walking in. Once settled in, we played chess together for the first time. It was very special. We both suck. She lost, but I didn't realize I had her in checkmate until she pointed it out. Bring it on, Big Blue.

  • Subway. Yes, we're weak, but it was lunchtime, and it was practically next door, and how could we not wonder what Subway tasted like in India? (Pretty much the same, btw.)

  • Sand Piper & my last meal in India. After King's (in Goa), Sand Piper is India's second-most drinkable beer. We split one to go with the chicken tikka kebab and chicken masala we had for my last meal on the subcontinent.

  • MEAT. Notice a theme? The best meat we had was in the Nirula's complex in CP, at The Chinese Room. Lamb with chili sauce and sesame seeds. Just writing about it has me licking my lips...

  • Clean clothes. It's not all food though. 15 minutes before my airport taxi was supposed to arrive, and guess what? My laundry appeared. It was even cheaper than I thought it would be.

  • Scaring the pants off Mr. Das. This is Claudia's department, of course. I just can't wait to hear if he tries to pull anything else. Give 'em hell, baby.

  • Samosas on the train. Okay, one more food one. On the train from Agra I snagged up 2 samosas for a snack. They're one of my favorite foods after all, and I knew this could be my last chance to have them for a while. Until I learn to make them at home, anyway. Anyone want to be my taste-testing guinea pig?

  • Leaving. Nearly 2 months in India. A blast. A pain. A thrill. I loved it. Yes, there are many aspects of India that I'd like to line up and bitch-slap, but there's a lot there that I admire and respect. I already can't wait for the next trip ;-) Delhi? Sayonara. India? It's been fun. Thailand? Can't wait to see what happens.

    Ant,

I'm very proud of ya. You adapted to India like a veteran. Thailand will be a walk in the park for you.

Thanks Nick! It defo had its challenges, and I've screwed up loads of times in the process (just ask Claudia), but all told I feel like India went brilliantly. In BKK I've promptly fried my tongue on some spicy seafood soup, walked my feet off in order to check out the King's mansion, elephant musuem, and zoo, etc., in Dusit. Oh, and helped ppl at the Thanxgiving dinner polish off some rather tasty Thai rum - much, much better than the not-quite-liquor in India!

Keep having fun in Bali, and send my best to the guys.

The true sign of a traveler about to leave India? He has nice things to say about India!
I agree about Barista. What a treat of a place...
