Jan 1 – Arrival Singapore – Happy New Year
Pictures – haven’t figured out titling for pictures – basically – Annika at zoo -parrots, Natalie not happy with the humidity, Natalie star of the show at zoo – was picked from the audience, Singapore airport – free internet and orchids everywhere, backpacker guest house, japanes toilet fun, fish feet cleaning, “hawker meal court eating”, zoo, josh legally tagging wall in Singapore, annika getting kiss by seal, Raffles hotel, buddhist templ, Sultan mosque, Tim resting!
Blog Notes: 10 hours to Japan, 7 hours to Singapore – arrival 2 am New Years. Incredible airport – cleanliness and upper scale. Rented a transit room for kids to sleep in. Natalie and Tim tried to sleep in airport somewhere – didn’t work out too well. After showering in the kids transit room, breakfast at airport (french toast – thats it – no syrup, anything. Took subway to inner city – fantastic system. After the opulance of the airport we alighted on our accomodations for the evening -in typical Natalie style – the name = “backpackers cosy corner” – to some a hole in the wall, but the cheapest rooms in town – all we need was AC. Kids have never experienced that type of heat and humidity, despite that we had a full day of sightseeing, walking miles, eating at “hawker stalls” – wiling to try strange food, going to a Buddhist temple, Muslim Mosque, electronics mall (7 stories, four sided – just bizarre), Raffles Hotel ($750/night), architecture, malls, bus rides, subway rides, taxi rides, going to a night zoo – first of kinds – in typical Johnson style – full day, kids exhausted but handled it incredibly. Enjoyable sitting around open space (brkfst area with sinks, toilets, showers) with other backpacker travelers (english, german, american, indonesian, malasian, etc) talking about travels – the only way to do it – you learn so much more. Second day – slept in, went to incredible zoo (better than any zoo we have ever seen – Annika in heaven (environmental magnate school child), got back late into town, Josh found out a free wall to graphiti on – spent 30 minutes searching down spray paint – went to a skate park and Josh spent an hour “tagging” a wall in Singapore late at night – his signature “Frost”! We got back real late, but he was so on a high he needed to journal everthing. Another full day.
