The summer palace
Today our tourist mood took us to the summer palace. The emperor’s sort of second home (lets hope no mps are claiming one this big!), set in nearly 800 acres of land with a man made hill and lake it was pretty impressive! We felt it was sort of like the Forbidden city but with more greenery around!! Again there were lots of chinese tourists trying to take our photos etc, we are pretty much used to this now! Tomorrow we make for Xian!! Hopefully sam will be close behind us but it all depends on this bloody ash cloud, no one seems to have a clue about. Anyway only a short one from me today! Hopefully internet access will be this easy in Xian so i can update as regularly as here but we shall see!!

sounds really good fun Rob, the wall trip must have been great like stepping back in time. Hope your flight to Xian goes off ok, ash cloud is still stopping flights here to day 20th 1400hrs, although some flights are supposed to be getting in and out of spain. I assume summer palace because it was too hot in the other one, are you still under a cloud/smog or did you see some sun yet? having said that it seems the whole of the far east suffers from these brown clouds which are a cause of global warming (lecture last week!) keep the saga coming in as much detail as you can as it will be a good diary of your trip
We have been fascinated by your Beijing reports and have no doubt that you will enjoy Xian and the Warriors. Your Wall trip sounds like it was very extensive – much longer than ours which was a only a couple of hours and no cable car and no fox whatever-it-was to the car park! Food sounds interesting but keep the Immodium to hand!! Have a wonderful time and savour every moment.
Hi Rob, trip sounds amazing – am showing Daniel where you are on the globe (he thinks you are only a couple of inches away from him in Lincs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) adding to it with internet footage of the wall etc – he says the warriors will be the best bit – will wait and see.
