It’s official! I’ve resigned…

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

After weeks of knowing that I was going to quit, I’ve finally taken the plunge and done it!  This morning I gave my resignation for July 24th.  However I told them if they needed some help, I’d stay until the end of September.

I can’t believe it’s done, it’s final done.  I’m actually leaving my job, I’m leaving the town of Cardston and I’m going to travel the world for 6 months.  It seemed real before, but now it’s really REAL!! I can barely contain myself!!  I can’t remember the last time I was THIS happy about something.

So now, I bide my time, save my money and get ready to explore.  Soon I’ll be in beautiful Ireland, then onto Turkey and India and then South East Asia.  My future is open…

What makes a person a seasoned traveller?

Monday, June 16th, 2008

What is it that makes a person a seasoned traveller?  Is it the variety of stamps in a passport?  The number of filled passports in ones drawer, or is the existance of a RTW trip of 6 months or longer?

I haven’t had the opportunity to take a long trip (not until October this year that is), but in the past 4 years I’ve travelled more than I have previsously.  My destinations may not be glamorous, but they’ve had their own profound effects.

Since moving to Alberta, I’ve been to Toronto- twice, Vancouver- 3 or 4 times, Seattle- twice, Portland, London, Paris, A roadtrip to Utah and Vegas with my Mother, Cuba, China, Nelson and little short trips through Alberta, Montana and British Columbia.

In China, I wandered the streets of Xi’an, stumbling upon the Great Mosque in the Islamic Quarter, where I sat with some local muslims, enjoyed several cups of jasmine tea and a steamed bread sandwich.  We didn’t speak each others language, but it was the most amazing experience.

In Cuba, I wandered the streets of Moron with my family.  There were lots of people, but the streets were virtually void of cars of any kind.  The people were friendly, although my “ta tas” got more attention than I had hoped, as a man made a jester in front of his chest mimicking mine and pointing to a room with a huge smile. Yeah, right buddy!!

You know, I think perhaps I should be renaming my blog to “The Sisterhood of the Travelling Ta Tas”.  What do you think? I mean, in every country I travel they get special attention.  How could they not? They’re HUGE! haha

The flight is booked, I am GONE BABY, GONE!

I finally did it!  This morning I drove to Lethbridge, walked into the travel agency with my $1,000 travel voucher and booked my flight from Toronto to London for October 13th.  I have never felt so elated in my whole ... [Continue reading this entry]

Many people who know me, know I've been talking of a long trip for a few years now.  However my career seemed to hold me back, ok, so maybe I held myself back.  But, things are about to change!  The ... [Continue reading this entry]
