Dusty Cairo!

We arrived in Cairo a couple days ago.  We have been so busy so far!  Where to start?

Our hotel is not the best but its ok.  Its on the 12th floor and over looks Cairo.  Cairo has many beautiful old buildings but the city is just one colour, brown!  Its just so dusty and there are hardly no parks or trees.  Its winter here and people are wearing winter coats and pants.   Ryan and I think the weather is perfect, 22-25 degrees and sunny.  We were saying what would these people where if they experienced a Canadian winter! LOL.

The first night we were here we went on a dinner cruise on the Nile River.  The food was really good and the entertainment was…really different.  Belly dancing and Arabic singing. 🙂  Our private driver stayed on the cruise with us and it felt like we had a personal body guard all night.  We had a good laugh about that. LOL

Our reception has helped us a lot and have organized and guided us for day trips.  Its going to be a very busy 4 days!

We figured out the exchange rate and its 4.4 Egyptian Pounds to 1 Canadian Dollar.  Not bad, but not nearly as good Thailand.

Its hard to walk around the city, almost all the signs and food menus are in Arabic but the Egyptians speak good english, better than the Thais we think.

The traffic and driving here is crazy.  Honking nonstop, no lanes, people just drive where ever they want and weave in and out.  There is a lot of traffic but not nearly as bad as Bangkok!  Pedestrians definitely do not have the right of way.  On our way from the airport our taxi driver said be very careful crossing the roads and then we saw an old man laying in the street and people surrounding him!!  I do not really like walking in the streets.  So hectic.
