In flight

March 23rd, 2006

Well, I’m finally about to head out on my long journey.  I am packed (more or less; prepared for a six month stint but undoubtedly forgot my deoderant – sorry 21B).

Thanks for all the well wishes, words of wisdom, and woeful warnings.  As I start on my way, I will be thinking of lost luggage, man-eating crocodiles, and tourist mishaps.  Fortunately I will be well-prepared with all my last minute travel packs!!

Well, I guess I will meet up with you all at my next stop!!  Enjoy your comfy beds, while I spend the next 22 hours in airplane coach seating and on airport floors!!

Hi, my name is Jill, and I am about to embark on my first trip to Africa. I am going with my sister Jaimi and her son, Kevin. Jaimi is a city girl, business exec, and world traveller. Kevin is also quite the world traveller and has been to more countries by the age of 5 than most of us will ever visit. I used to be a city girl, but I recently moved to the country. That was kind of like going on safari in itself, except the big 5 here are cows, horses, goats, llamas, and cowboys. When I tell people around here I’m going on safari, they ask me what I’ll be hunting for. So to clarify right now, I will not be killing anything on this trip (unless the mosquitoes are bad.)

As for me, I am a hopeful world traveller. So far the extent of my travels have included North and Central America and most of Europe. I’m really excited about visiting a whole new continent and a new ocean!! My trip begins in Portland, Oregon; I’ll be flying out to Frankfurt, Germany where I will catch a train to Stuttgart, where Jaimi and Kevin live. I am staying in Germany for about 4 days, and then the 3 of us will go on to Port Elizabeth, South Africa. We will stay a few nights in town, and then we will be hopping around to a couple of game reserves in the south eastern part of the country. Check out my links of places where we will be staying!

I will hopefully be able to keep in touch with people through this site while I am traveling.  I’m good about buying post cards, but I rarely send them, so maybe this way I can keep everyone posted on my adventure; and you guys can keep me informed on the goings-ons back home!  I’m also always happy to hear from others who will be traveling or have traveled in this area of the world.

Anyway, I better start packing!
