Welcome to my travel blog! This is the account of my fourth trip to Nepal, and my first trip ever with a group of friends! We have been hard at work for the last 6 months arranging vacation time, flights, vaccinations, payments, etc. Servicetrek.org is our organization, and they will be leading us on a two week odyssey through the foothills of Mt. Everest. The trekking fee we paid will not only go towards our accommodations, but also makes it possible for us to hire porters and buy medical supplies, which we will deliver to health clinics along the way. We leave on September 30th, at 6:45am, from Detroit on a grueling journey that will take us to Chicago, L.A., and Singapore, before reaching Kathmandu on October 4th at 1pm. But you never know- we could get re-routed to anywhere!

So that’s the plan. After my friends leave me on October 18th, I will be visiting all of my friends and family in the capital. I am equally excited to see all of them, especially during Tihar, a family festival where siblings are celebrated.

I am taking 7 fellow nurses (and friends) from U of M hospital- Katrina, Diane, Angie, Erin, and Nikki, my coworkers on cardio-thoracic , Marissa from neuro-surgery, and Nikki’s friend Minna from ortho. Nikki and Minna have been traveling all over Asia the past month, and I’m so excited to meet up with them and hear about all of their adventures. The other girls are getting excited, nervous, and anxious… but so far I haven’t felt much like I’m going anywhere. I did get some things on my list yesterday, but really it only made me realize how much more there is to do!
