This Saturday Adam and I went out to see Charlene compete in the Aboriculture Tree Climbing competition. We met Beau, Christie, Jana and John as well as her parents and Daniel out there. I brought signage and costumes and we cheered her on!
There are 5 events. Let’s see… I don’t remember the exact names of each event, I’m sure Charlene will correct me but there was… Line Toss (Where you throw a weighted line up into a target crotch in the tree), Foot Lock (climbing up a 40′ rope to ring a bell), Aerial Rescue (rescue a 180lb dummy from a tree), Speed Climb (climb to the top of a tree as fast as you can), and Work Climb (5 different tasks must be completed within the tree). Charlene performed really well and I like to think it had a little to do with the entourage that she brought!
What was really funny was that she was like a celebrity on campus. A television interviewer set up their camera just to film Charlene and interview her and then promptly left. Lots of jokes about Hitting crotches etc…
She made it into the finals and won so this July she’s headed off to St. Louis for the internationals!!! Congrats Charlene!
