If there is only one thing you do in Wellington, it should be to visit Te Papa Museum! The entire day today was spent there trying to see all the exhibits and I spent 5 hours there but I didn’t manage to cover it all. And I found out later there were walks and exhibits around the outside on the building grounds as well that I didn’t get to cover!!
I found the Maori history quite interesting and the special exhibit on New Zealand Post history very good too. (I know, I’m a geek, I like stamps!) The Queen even lent part of her stamp collection to the museum for the display.
Did you know that at one point, NZ post scanned letters to put them on microfiche type film and brought that over to England, Canada, Egypt, etc. and then reprinted them there to be sent off to their recipients cuz it was much lighter than sending all the original copies?
Te Papa has a Sculpture Terrace that I spent a lot of time at. The art installation was very cool, Wish You Were here by Sarah Hughes. I took so many pictures of that installation, but it was so happy! All the bright colours, the sunshine… a great piece!
A picture of the whole installation
Tonight is Cheap tuesday at the movies so I’m heading off to see Pride and Predjudice.
