Tonight I went with Sam to the campus bar to meet other grad students and the prospective students. They woo the ‘specs each year with a trip to campus to check everything out. Apparently, Irvine is one of a few that actually has a budget to woo candidates.
Meeting new people requires effort for the grad students. I’m sure of it. They have to put on their best face and act like human beings. Each of them put on such a good show, Sam and his 2 friends, it was like aliens replaced them with look-alikes that knew how to function when company is in town.
Sam downed quite a few beers and was in good spirits as we walked back to his apartment after the initial meet and greet was over. but that didn’t last long. Once inside the apartment, it was back to normal.
Not only were the specs great to talk to but their spouses as well. Some very interesting and diverse people want to study here. Margaret and her husband are pretty much a lock for Irvine; they are so sure that she has an appointment with a realtor tomorrow to go house hunting. I’m going with and afterwards, Newport beach and Balboa Island! yay!
