I read the first 2 harry potter books in under a week and am going to
a major book store tomorrow to see if they have the third (out of the
half dozen local book stores nearby, only one has an english book
area, and its like 1 rack [they had 1, 2 and 4]). They’re okay, above
average, though I think the hype is overblown.
I also read deception point by dan brown earlier, and I bought ‘holy
blood holy grail’ because I thought I heard on a ‘the davinci code’
PBS debunking special that it was a thriller like the davinci code but
I was sadly mistaken ( I didn’t even get a page through before getting
bored).
I read “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Diana Wynne Jones because we had
downloaded the movie and it was at least 10 times better than the
movie, though both are awesome (the movie has a terrible ending
though). The movie had only the names of some of the characters in
common with the book though. I really suggest you read it.
As well, i’ve been getting a couple manga’s (japanese comic books)
that I had been reading at home through fan translated downloads.
When it takes 10 minutes to read a page, the comedies are just a
relief rather than funny (you can see how they would’ve been hilarious
had you read them a bit more fluently), the dramas are cheesy than
heartwrenching, and the action comics are confusing.
it took the entire first month for me to finish Tom Clancy’s Red
Rabbit (which is pretty impressive, since I had the book for 2 years)
as it was a boring political ‘suspense’ where nothing really happens.
Maybe I’ll borrow LOTR from celina, one of the girls in our group, and
finish the last 200 pages that I’d been loathing to read since I
started 2-3 years ago.
