Kakadu and Katherine

My 3 day tour of the 2 parks in the Northern  Territory was great. The beginning of the dry season and the tourists haven’t all arrived yet so the parks were not crowded. Even my tour was only 10 people so it was very intimate. My guide was very good at giving tons of information about each place we visited and pulled us over to some sites that were not really on the itineary too. Saw some lovely waterfalls, giant termite mounds, crocs, frogs, birds, filming locations from Crocodile Dundee, everything! Picture highlights uploaded to Facebook as I can’t reduce picture sizes when I upload here.

My favourite location: Gunlom Falls in Kakadu National Park. There is a 20 minute hike straight up the cliff face to a series of pools and waterfalls at the top. 30+ degrees outside and the water was perfect. My guide, Craig, thought it was cold but it had to be over 20 degrees so it was warm. I jumped right in without hesitation! You know it’s warm when I don’t hesitate to get in, right Charlene! (and I didn’t get muscle cramps from the cold water) Craig tried to startle me with a floating croc head.

Later that night at our campsite we took a walk by the water to look for some fresh water crocs (freshies) and found a 1.5 meter one at the waters edge. This guy even charged at us a couple of times startling the whole group except for the guide and myself. We were well far back (3+meters) so I had no problem with it’s sudden movement.

Also, Craig showed us that we needed to check the toilet for tree frogs before using them because they like to hide in the toilet bowl. And he also killed a couple of Cane toads to emphasize the fact that they are bad for the environment there. Violent end, ask me about it when you see me!
