The venue was a temporary tent and very hot. What I thought was assigned seating turned out to be general seating as we realized folding chairs were just zip-tied together into rows. Had we known we might have gone in earlier. The Ticketmaster website implied assigned seating just by highlighting a section but not two particular seats…
Dinner at The Kitchen buffet was half price (lucky for us!) and I had way more than my share of peel and eat shrimp. The food was not spectacular but was good enough for $15.00.
Graham Russell, one half of Air Supply, played 3 songs from his recently released CD as the opening act. Soft rock, lovey dovey and just with a guitar. I’d say 2 out of his 3 songs were good. The other was a little peppier and didn’t quite work for me.
The band came out strong with one of their biggest hits first, (for the life of me I can’t remember the title as I’m writing this). The audience was well behave and subdued but would do arm waves when encouraged by Russell Hitchcock, the lead singer. He tried a few times thoughout the night to get the audience to do the one handed sign “I love you” but the audience would have none of it. (quite funny because it came off cheesy) Graham was really into his music, jumping in circles while he played his guitar.
The audience only livened up when, after an interlude by the band, they came out to sing a song while wandering in the audience. I laughed as all the ladies stood up and rushed over to take pictures. One lady ran up like she was going to tackle Graham and then spun around, stood beside him with a HUGE grin while waiting for her companion to take a photo. Graham kinda jerked his guitar away surprised and continuted his walk through the aisles while the lady kept shuffling forward waiting for the flash of her camera to go off. After that, ladies were crowding around the stage front for the rest of the set. Someone even got Russell a Kokanee for him to cool off.
Their set included all the big hits:
Every Woman in the World
The One that You Love
Even the Nights are Better
Two Less Lonely People in the World
Making Love out of Nothing at All
Oh, I was surprised to hear what I know as a Celine Dion song, but was probably her covering Air Supply. “The Power of Love” I lipped Synched to Adam! hahahah
