Kuala Lumpur
After leaving the island paradise, I spent a few days in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. Three days there, yet I managed to actually do very little.
I went up the KL Tower, a lot like the Seattle Space Needle. It had a nice view of the city skyline, but only a sideways view of the Petronas Towers, the world’s second- (wait, scratch that, as of last week’s news from Dubai) third-tallest buildings.
I visited a huge, 10-story mall, which boasts an indoor roller coaster and the world’s biggest Border’s bookstore (take that, Dubai!).
And finally, I took an “ego trip” across town to see this:
And that was pretty much it. I wasn’t planning to visit Kuala Lumpur, or Malaysia necessarily, so it was fun landing blind in a country I knew virtually nothing about, and left without much improvement. But I did happen to be there during Malaysia’s big 50th anniversary of nationhood campaign. Lots of helpful info and promotion of Malaysia as a tourist destination, and I have to admit it has a lot of appeal, mainly natural attractions and shopping. So check out some of the nice glossy brochures:
but be sure to read the fine print on the back…

I had heard that large chunks of Malaysia and especially Kuala Lumpur were a bit Americanized, but the worlds largest Borders? Jesus.
Now I have that “I’ve seen things, they’re often in disguise” song in my head. Silly Kuala Lumpur, dressing up as France. http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/scampi/ if you have access to a compy with sound and/or no idea what I’m talking about.
Cheers!
Yowza! Death, Huh? I sure am glad you used up all your heroin in Thailand, then.

PS, nice top.
Hey…that shirt looks suspiciously like a dress.
That mall would do me in.

I guess I’m a little behind things, because I thought The Petronas towers were the highest! I’m always out of the loop!! It was great talking to you today, sorry it wasn’t for very long- I hate working!!!! Nice to see you in somewhat of a local garb – can’t believe you spent money on clothes – I suspect you will probably burn your clothes you brought with you when your trip is done – You are definately giving them their wear and tear test. Hope you have fun on your cooking class! Let me know the most unusual food you’ve eaten so far. LOVE, MOM
It’s not a dress.
(Just so that’s clear.)
It’s just a long shirt that I got in India, and I wear as a slightly more modest shirt (because you know, I usually dress like Britney Spears). The weirdest thing about that mall was looking inside big flashy designer stores, and seeing women inside wearing burkas. I guess they have really trendy underwear?
Uh, our vote is, dress. And quite fashionably worn with pants !! We really like it. —Kim and Lexi
Definitely a dress. And it looks good on you too. 🙂

Hi,
I like your shirt. Not sure if anyone else is having problems while clicking on the pictures. When I do, it takes me to PHOTOBUCKET instead of WEB SHOTS. Not able to see more pictures. Am I the only one? Glad to see your are still enjoying your travels.
Gah! I can’t win! (Thanks Sharon for being on my side 🙂 Sorry about the pictures.. I had to switch to Photobucket because Webshots was too slow and I’m now in incredibly-slow-internet-land.
