Job hunting

Monday, October 30th, 2006

I’m taking a break for my feet. I’ve walked through Donnybrook, Ranalagh, Rathmines, and now I’m headed to city center before heading back to Rathmines and back home. I saw an apartment in Donnybrook this morning – SO CUTE. I really want it – but we’ll see if I get it. I have another viewing tomorrow and I need to make some more calls tonight.

So far I’ve dropped my CV off at about 15 places, and I can’t tell you how many more have turned me down. The only responses so far are for watressing. I’m going into a very cute place called Toast on Wednesday. It looks very promising, even if it isn’t bartending. Thats it from here. I’ll head into city center – swing back and hit 3 closed places with signs on the way from Rathmines, and we’ll see how it goes.

Ireland

Hmm – don’t remember my last post. Well, things here are going well. I spent Thursday catching up on sleep, and Friday I went to USIT orientation, then going out for lunch with another American (Jenny) and then we took the bus tour around the city (there are some REALLY pretty parks I can’t wait to go back and see).

Friday night K and I decided not to go to the surgeons party, and we went to Rocky instead. It was SO MUCH FUN. All the freaks of Dublin came out, dressed to the nines, and it wasn’t in a regular movie theater; it was set up like a cabaret, so there were tables and a bar – which is a really great idea. PLUS – they provided almost all the props – when was the last time a US theater let you throw rice? I was highly impressed that I managed to remember as many lines as I did. AND – the whole thing was being filmed by RTE for some special. Then we ended up at a club (ack – Irish boys do what Kristl calls the “frog in a blender” dance) and back at McSoreley’s, where I’m hoping to work. Its so cute – I want to work there so badly. Oh – and we ended the night with curry cheese chips. 🙂
Yesterday we took it easy – I  looked for apartments (I have one viewing so far on Monday) and we went to see Marie Antoinette at night before heading to Winters (also looking for staff) which is super trendy). I liked the movie, but I do think Sofia was highly influenced by Terrence Malick.

Went shopping this morning with Barry (one of the housemates), and am now looking for apartments. Going to Diwali this evening. Tomorrow I’ll be out looking for a job and a place to live, and at some point I’ll wander around the city on foot to take photos.

OH! Best new line I heard for Rocky – when Dr. Scott is pictured for the first time – “TIMMY!”
