It’s Thursday. Work is slow. I did not go to Yoga yesterday, I went home and crashed. I’ve been super-sleepy all week. And I’ll still be going to pilates tonight. I still have 3 things left in the Christchurch area to see, and – hey! – three weekends left, so I think I’m going to go to the Willowbank wildlife reserve and the International Antarctic Center this weekend. And sleep lots. Oh and I got some fun movies out, so those, too. And finish my 2 murder mysteries.
Candidate match. Yeah, my top 3? Mike Gravel, John McCain (!?!?!?) and Dennis Kucinich. I kid you not. Changing my answers slightly, I got Joe Biden (I have a letter from him at home somewhere), John McCain (again!!!), and Hillary. I’m tres confused. What the hell were Obama’s answers to all these?
Heroes’ creator apologizes. The important bit? “After weeks of sluggish storytelling, the Nov. 5 episode recaptured some of last season’s fanciful energy. We’ve also seen the next two episodes — and we like them, too. The cliff-hangers are back. Narrative purpose has been discovered. Old favorites like Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) and Horn-Rimmed Glasses (Jack Coleman) take center stage.” I think it can come back. A lot of people thought season 2 was off for Lost, and they came back with a super-strong season 3 (“giant hamsters” is still making me giggle!)

The best on screen strikes. It’s nice to know the strike is making someone else think of Newsies; I woke up this morning with that opening song stuck in my head. Not included on the list, but also well worth watching (for Fosse’s choreography) is the Pyjama Game (7 and a half cents…)
The Write Stuff: the strike and Q&A. Oh my god, this made me laugh out loud (in the I’m at work so I’ll snurfle mostly silently kind of way), “As I’ve mentioned, New York and Los Angeles are going to be the two best areas for this. You might not want to live in LA, but you don’t have much choice if you sincerely want to break into screenwriting. You’re not going to bump into Al Pacino at an Omaha Dunkin’ Donuts.
Although I do think “Al Pacino at an Omaha Dunkin’ Donuts” is a great idea for a sketch. “I want a…BAKAH’S DOZEN BABY! GIMME ALL YOU GOT!!!””
21 adaptations that must happen now. Yeah, I’ve read like none of these. Except Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which is awesome. However, it’s so sprawling there’d need to be a lot cut out. Alan Rickman as the man with thistledown hair is a cool casting idea, though…

How Ellen is handling the strike, “”I address [the strike], and I have a little fun with trying to fill time with no content,” the daytime talk-show host explained Wednesday during a telephone press conference about her upcoming variety show on TBS. “We tried to figure out how many pints were in a cup, we guessed the inches of the length of the coffee table… today, honestly, I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet. We shoot in five hours. I have to figure out how I’m gonna walk out there and make people happy.””

I was reading the DVD reviews on AICN (his description for the Best of the Colbert Report cracks me up), but it mentions a Cricket in Times Square, which I absolutely LOVED as a kid and had completely forgotten abour. I read the books, too – I remember Tucker’s Countryside was on the bookshelf next to my bed.
I actually had someone ask me today whether Thanksgiving is really a celebration of killing Indians. Oh my god; America so needs a PR firm.

Not quite as good as Billy Elliot, but another Brit Flick that deals with Thatcher’s crushing the miners is “Brassed Off” with Ewan MacGregor. Well worth seeing!
The Pajama Game was the first Union musical, with choreography by Bob Fosse (and he even dances in one number). And unlike Newsies, it doesn’t suck.
Seriously – who is this Mike Gravel? He must be the most liberal of all the candidates (which would be why he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance and why I’ve never heard anything about him).
Boy – you’re going to get some hate-mail comments over Newsies.
As if I care. I never actually go on that site unless you link it for some reason, so I’ll never read the comments. Besides, it’s too ridiculous that ANYONE could consider “Newsies” a good — or even a passably decent — movie. It’s crap! You just like it b/c you saw it at an impressionable age and it had a cute lead. The other people on the site were the same. They probably saw the thing when they were 11 and were smitten with Christian Bale. And how any entertainment site worth its salt could ignore Pajama Game! Sheesh… what’s da woild comin’ to? (As a newsie might say…)
Newsies is fabulous. It’s in that category of awful and fantastic at the same time (like Kristl’s Center Stage, or Saki’s Dirty Dancing 2).
The Pajama game is fun, especially for that red head doing Fosse’s choreography, but it isn’t a particularly great movie, either. And 20-somethings who write for entertainment sites are going to be more familiar with Newsies than with Doris Day.
