Thailand – Koh Chang
Greetings from Koh Chang.
Koh Chang is part of a group of islands to the east of Thailand, not too far from the coast of Cambodia.
As we were stuck for time in Thailand (just 11 days) we decided to go to Koh Chang as it’s only a 5hr bus drive from the capital and then the ferry. We stayed at a beach called ‘Lonely Beach’, it wasn’t all that lonely, but one of the lesser developed beaches on the island.
The name Koh Chang means Elephant Island, and so on the second day we took an Elephant hike up into the jungle, which was great Tuk Tam was our transport for the hour journey, he was so calm and well behaved!
With our trip taking in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, we decided that the best way to do this was to learn to dive, and with the great price for diving courses in Thailand, we decided what better place to learn!

Back in Bangkok, this is a cool bar, a converted Volkswagen minibus! There’s lots of them about, they just pull up on the side of the street or in a car park and open the top, turn on the loudspeakers, put out a few tables and chairs and start serving drinks and voila a mobile bar!
One of the many street sellers, they’re great for a bargain, and always smiling!

Ko Chang es parte de un grupo de islas al este de Tailandia, no muy lejos de la costa de Cambodia.
Como solo ibamos a estar 11 dias en Tailandia decidimos ir a conocer las islas , estan a 5 horas en bus desde
Bangkok y luego 30 minutos en ferry. Estuvimos en una playa llamada Lonely beach ” playa solitaria”, que poco le queda de solitaria..pero es una de las mejores.
El nombre de significa la isla del Elefante, y el segundo dia decidimos dar una vuelta por la jungla en elefante, Tuk Tam se llamaba se porto muy bien todo el camino ..
Cuando estemos en Australia vamos a intentar ir a la gran barrera de coral, y pensamos que lo mejor seria aprender submarinsmo, los precios de los cursos en Tailandia son tres veces mas barato que en Australia , asi que aprovechamos la oportunidad en Ko Chang.
Hicimos fotos debajo del agua con una de esas camaras de usar y tirar .. Nos hubiera gustado compartir imagenes de los pececillos y corales la cantidad de colores ,como la pelicula de Nemo…!

Me parece fantastico que hayan hecho el curso de Open Water!! Yo era como vos, la idea de estar con el tubo no me causaba mucha gracia pero Robin insistio para que hicieramos uno de estos bautizmos de buceo el ano pasado en Chipre y me encanto!!! Cuando estuvimos en Argentina en Marzo nos hicimos el curso porque no salia super barato. Robin hizo la teoria en un ingles argentinizado pero lo sacamos. Es durillo, sobre todo cuando se hace en pocos dias pero estoy segura de que no se arrepentiran. Si pueden ir a la gran barrera de coral seguro que lo van a flipar!! Desde que me saque el curso es una de las cosas que quiero hacer asique espero ver el reporte completo!!
Buenisimas las fotos, los tigres estan para comerselos y la aranita… AAAAAHHHHH. No me gustaria encontrarme con una 🙂

I remember that volkwagen mini-bus bar, it was usually in a laneway just off that Koasan street with all the outdoor restaurants and food stalls. Our hostel/hotel was down that laneway towards the river.
We had a few cocktails there one night, excellent. Did you try the fried cockroaches on Koasan? Didn’t have the nerve myself.

there are a couple of VW Bars in a disused petrol station on the main road, there are also a few on Rambuttri Rd. which is where we stayed. Sometimes they go on into the next day!!! And no fried cockroaches for me, I was looking at the stall when one local who was buying some as well as some fried maggots offered me one of his fried maggots, but I had to politely refuse, no way man!!!! Mind you there were a few brave (or drunk) foreigners willing to try the crunchy critters!

yes those bars were fun! There’s an idea, whynot open one up on the promenade in Bray, hahaha!!! We didn’t get to the areas affected by the Tsunami, but they’ve been preparing for the 1 year anniversary, all over Thailand, and the world I guess. Larry is going there for Xmas week, so I’m sure he can let us know the place feels compared to last year.

yea, we wanted to put one of those baby elephants into our backpack, but they were a bit too big, hehaha. It’s great the way they’re so well behaved. Christmas day tomorrow, amazing here in Oz, will post something about that soon.

Si que intentaremos ir a la gran barrera de coral , dicen que es tan grande que se ve desde el espacio , los tiburones alli no atacan humanos ..y que se ven tantos corales y pececillos que pareces estar soñando.. lo malo es que dicen que la polucion quimica de toda la porqueria que echamos al mar se lo esta cargando y si sigue asi en 40 años no quedara nada …
Por cierto estamos en Bondi Beach en Sydney ( el dia antes de Navidad , no es genial?) y en esta playa si que hay tiburones , los vigilan con helicopteros y redes para bloquear la playa .. cuando ven que vienen suenan las sirenas …uuups .. aun asi nos hemos bañado un poquillo.

Australia es preciosa , estaremos en Sydney hasta el 1, luego Brisbane ,y luego ya empezaremos nuestras rutas , me encantaria ver aborigenes, sabeis que llegaron aqui hace 40.000 años.. hasta que los europeos llegaron y empezaron a robarles la tierra y cazar aborigenes ha sido legal hasta hace poco .., todavia estan luchando por sus derechos.

I nearly have a go with the cockroaches and the worms with garlic sauce , I got closer couple of times but ..they look so disgusting ..! we saw lots people eating them ..
Anyway there were lots of exotic fruits..so cheap , so we had a safer choice on street food.

(jop, de verdad que me emociono con todo lo que hacéis) todo esto parece de la peli Indiana Jones… y desde luego la araña esa seguro que quedó la primera en el casting QUE MIEDOOOOOO!!!!! (yo creo que veo algo así e iba a tardar unos cuantos días en sentarme y dormir tranquila….)
… si he estado un poco ausente es por que, después de la gripe vino el montaje de un video para unos colegas, y ahora me voy a pasar la navidad (dulce navidad) metida en casita de mi madre debido a un desgarre muscular en el costado (comunmente conocido como “carne despegada”) producido por el esfuerzo que tuve que hacer tosiendo cuando tuve la gripe (hace 2 o 3 semanas)…..
…. y bueno, ya excusada y explicadas todas mis aventuras/desventuras….
…a final no me voy a Madrid (millones de gracias Quene/Calenco)… y es que me he decidido por Granada….. puede que más adelante vaya a Madrid o Barcelona a hacer algo más, pero, por el momento, prefiero quedarme en mi Andalusiiita bonita …. que me tiene ENAMORÁ!!! 😉 Así que ya sabéis, de visita a Granada no???
Yo no se si podría hacer lo del submarinismo, pero con la alegría con la que habláis de ello estoy empezando a pensar que no me importaría sumergirme en alguna playita… pero bueno, aún quiero ver vuestras fotos que seguro que van a ser la ostia!!!

Na de na, solo como dicen en mi pueblo el “restrego” que en castellano es reintegro , para que luego no hablen de la lengua Castellano Manchega.
Las fotos que has enviado a Blanquita son practicamente las mismas que a mi, con un diez por ciento de variacion. Yo guardo los originales enviados. Del que recibi yo hice una copia a blanquita despues de poner las fotos de “pie”.
Decia la Calenco, que sabe un huevo, que cualquier dia estareis una fecha antes en el calendario como Willy Fog.
No te fies de los tiburones aunque esteis en la “laguna de coral”, a veces se cuelan los de dos metros, segun la National Geografic. En la otra playa en mar abierto esta superdocumentada y asegurada la visita. No es de extrañar las redes y la vigilancia. Aunque a veces , cuando se enganchan con las redes , suelen romperlas y se escapan , pero entonces dejan un boquete para los mas pequeños. Que tienen un mordisco más pequeño.
