Por fin hemos encontrado un internet cafe que pueda subir fotos y asi enseñaros mas cosillas. Despues de casi 23h en colectivo (bus), llegamos a Puerto Madryn donde estan empezando a llegar las ballenas, aunque nos dijeron que no saldrian barcos todavia, tuvimos suerte y si pudimos verlas desde Puerto Madryn las vimos a lo lejos, otra opcion es ir a la playa del El Doradillo cuando la marea esta lata se las puede ver a unos 20m. En la foto estamos en la playa durante marea baja, en las cuevas de los acantilados, son James y Steve & Catherine, una pareja de Australia que conocimos en Ushuaia, y con quienes seguimos coincidiendo por toda la Patagonia…!!

ENG: We finally found a decent internet cafe where we can upload photos for your viewing pleasure! After a 23 hour bus journey from El Calafate to Puerto Madryn on the Atlantic coast, where whales are beginning to arrive, they told us in the tourist office that boat trips out to see the whales were not running yet. Our first glimpse of the whales was from a restaurant window right into the harbour where we saw the familiar spurt from their blow-whole. We also headed out to El Doradillo beach where they say you can see them a few metres from the shore, but we weren´t so lucky. But we did get to see some cool cave features in the cliffs! That´s me, Steve & Catherine, a couple from Oz, who we met down in Ushuaia, and who we keep on bumping into all aound Patagonia!

En vez de hacer un tour alquilamos un coche con Stephen y Catherine ,(nos los encontramos en cada pueblo donde vamos) asi que decidimos que ahorrariamos plata y veriamos mas cosas… a nuestro ritmo.. y asi durante 2 dias nos recorrimos la isla en busca de guanacos, orcas, elefantes marinos, ballenas y los simpaticos armadillos…!

Aqui pudimos ver muchos tipos de pajaros incluidos flamencos.

ENG: We decided to hire a car for 2 days instead of doing the usual one-day tour, with Steve & Catherine it worked out much cheaper than the tour too! So we headed out to the rough roads on Peninsula Valdes and got to see lots of wildlife, apparently one of the best spots in all of Argentina for wildlife. Our first stop was at the Isla de Pajaros (Bird Island), a very important bird reserve, where friendly birds come ight up to the camera lens! We even got to see lots of flamingos on the beach!

Esta es una de las increibles puestas de sol que se pueden ver desde Peninsula Valdes, parecia que el cielo estaba ardiendo.

ENG: An amazing sunset from Puerto Piramides, on the peninsula, it looks like the sky is on fire! All through Patagonia sunrises and sunsets are the most spectacular we’ve seen anywhere!

Tuvimos mucha suerte ese dia y no solo salieron embarcaciones para hacer avistajes de ballenas si no que estuvieron alrededor de la barcaza durante toda la travesia, pudimos ver Ballenas Franca Austral, aqui vienen a reproducirse y un año despues a tener a las crias, llegan alrededor de 600 ; esta ballena esta en peligro tiene de extincion porque era la mas facil de cazar ya que se acerca mucho a la barca y por su alto contenido en grasa, a veces uno no sabia quien estaba haciendo el avistaje de quien.. pasaban por debajo de la barca , son inmensas con 18m , a veces se quedaban paradas observandonos.. increible! Quiza la epoca mas espectacular para verlas es cuando enseñan a las crias a saltar.. Alrededor de Septiembre, fue una pena no verlas saltar .. pero nos quedamos igualmente alucinados con estos cetaceos, estuvimos el resto del dia flipados con ellas.

ENG: We found out that the next day boats were indeed heading out to see the first goup of whales in the bay. To our amazement the whales came right up to the boat and underneath, and stayed with us fo the whole time we were in the water. About 600 Southern ight Whales come to this area every year to mate and others t give birth to calves from the previous mating season. These whales are threatened with extinction due to the fact they are very docile and curious, approaching boats, making it easy for whalers to kill them. These guys seemed so inquisitive, that they would often stop still in the water, looking up at us, we weren’t sure who was watching who! Unfortunately we didn´t get to see them jump, usually that´s the mothers teaching the young the ways of the ocean, around September.

Desde el coche se puede ver todo tipo de animales tipicos de la zona como los guanacos y la liebre patagonica (que esta tambien en peligro de extincion gracias a los animales que introdujeron los europeos), y un grupo de caballos cabalgando libres por toda la estepa…fue casi magico verles calbalgar..Peninsula Valdes es un Parque Nacional y esta totalmente protegido, el unico pueblecito en medio de esta peninsula arida es Puerto Piramide.

ENG: Every few kilomteres you could see wildlife moving amongst the bushes, here’s the Patagonian Hare, a very large hare like animal, about the size of a large dog! In the background are some Guanacos lurking about! We also saw some horses roaming in the wild, amazing!

Era la primera vez que veiamos un armadillo, notamos que estaba por alli por que habia unas marcas en el suelo, va constantemente oliendo el terreno, este es un armadillo peludo come de todo y por eso estuvo alrededor nuestro durante un buen rato olisqueando la bolsa de comida que llevabamos…el animal mas gracioso que hemos visto hasta ahora…hasta posó para la camara. (En el Norte se los comen..!!)

ENG: This was the first time we saw an armadillo, and a hairy one at that! We saw its tracks, not really sure if wed see one, but we caught up with it, when it started going in and out of the bushes, then came closer, sniffing to see if we had any food! This one stayed around for a good few minutes, even posing on its hind legs, aaaawwwwww, how cute! (Apparently they’re a delicacy further up north, but at least this one’s protected in the national park).

Cruzamos toda la peninsula para ir a ver a los elefantes marinos y a las orcas, vimos solo hembras de elefante marino el macho es el doble de grande y tiene como una especie de tropa que los hace parecerse a un elefante (bastante feillos), viven en harenes 40 hembras por cada macho, los machos no llegan hasta Septiembre, las orcas llegan hasta la orilla misma de las playas para zamparse las crias de focas y elefantes marinos, afortunadamente o desafortunadamente (segun se tenga el estomago) no vimos ese espectaculo de la naturaleza.

ENG: We travelled right accross the peninsula, from west to east, and south to north, a good 400km round trip! We got to see some Sea Elephants. The females in the pictures look just like Seals but are larger, and the males can measure up to 6 metres in length, rulers of harems containing up to 40 females! The males have a large snout resembling an elephant’s trunk, hence the name, unfortunately we didn’t get to spot one.

Desde la playa de Puerto Madryn se pueden ver ballenas, asi que un par de prismaticos es esencial si vienes por aqui.. A diferencia con las ballenas que vimos en Kaikoura estas se acercan a la costa y han echo de este lugar su nidito de amor..Y aqui nunca las cazaron asi que esperamos que el numero de ellas aumente en el futuro.

ENG: Back in town, in Puerto Madryn you could see whales playing in the harbour, binoculars needed though, just to make sue they’re whales, and not buoys popping up and down!!!!

Bueno espero que hayais disfrutado de Peninsula Valdes, nos quedamos sin ver muchos animales, pero al menos vimos a las ballenas… proxima parada El Bolson pueblo hippie, donde uno parece estar en la Tierra Media de J R Tolkien.
