James & Quene travelling around the World

Hola desde el Valle Sagrado de los Incas, en el Valle donde transcurre el rio Urubamba y donde se puede visitar ruinas Incas muy importantes. Hicimos un tour de un dia por el valle. En la foto una vista del valle, y James con un coleguilla Inca que conocimos en Cusco.

Eng: The Sacred Valley of the Incas runs along the Urubamba river and holds many important Inca ruins. We took a day trip through the valley. Here’s a view of the Valley itself. And that’s me with a mate I met in Cusco, some Inca guy!!!!

Pisaq fue la primera parada en el Valle Sagrado. Con sus terrazas impresionantes donde cultivaban, la temperatura de cada terraza varia hasta 3 grados, tambien habia un cementerio para incas en la pared de la montaña, de muy dificil acceso. Una de las muchas vendedoras de artesanias peruanas, esperando la llegada de guiris. Besando una alpaca en un mercado local en Pisaq…son tan bonitassssss!!

Eng: Pisaq was our first stop along the Valley. Here there are some massive farming terraces, along with a royal cemetery, which was built into the mountain face. Here’s a local handicrafts seller. And Quene kissing an Alpaca at the market in Pisaq, aaawww, how cute!!!!

La siguiente parada era Ollantaytambo en la ladera de la montaña se puede ver una edificacion que se puede encontrar por todo el valle y casi por todo Peru, alli se guardaban los alimentos para la epoca de sequia, al lado tambien se puede observar otro perfil humano. En las fotos de abajo se ve de nuevo las terrazas para el cultivo y arriba habia un templo del sol y la luna tan importante para los Incas para determinar el comienzo del año y calcular cuando cosechar.

Eng: Next stop was Ollantaytambo, in the mountain side you can see some food stores and also the face of an Inca, which was formed naturally! The pics below show again farming terraces and on the top was the temple of the sun where the Incas celebrate the solstices.

Maras, un pueblo precioso de origen español y muy parecido a los tipicos pueblecillos en ambas Castillas (me recordo a Setiles), a varios Kms esta estas salinas construidas por los incas y todavia en uso, el agua salada que sale de la montaña segun esta gente viene del mar, y estamos aprox a 800km del mar. Es un negocio familiar que poseen alrededor de 7 a 9 salineras cada uno todos descencientes de Incas. Excelente lugar para hacer mil fotos.

Eng: Maras on the other side of the valley is famous for its Inca saltpans. These were built over 500 years ago and have been in use ever since. They are owned by a collective, each owner having 7 or 8 pans, when they retire they pass on their salt pans to their children who do the same and so on. Many of the owners here are direct decendants of the Incas. The water they use flows from the mountains and contains a very high concentration of salt.

Moray esta a 10 km del pueblo de Maras, este lugar tambien construido por los Incas era un “laboratorio para la agricultura” cada anillo concentrico tiene 4m de alto y varia la temperatura aprox 2.5 grados, aqui experimentaban con las semillas, dicen que el centro de este lugar tiene mucha energia, todavia se utiliza (pero en la epoca de lluvias ahora estaba todo sequiiiito). En la segunda foto James en el centro tomando un poco de energia.

Eng: Moray is about 10 km from the village of Maras, here the Incas used these terraces as a kind of agricultural laboratory, each level of the concentric ringed terraces had a different temperature to the level above, approximately 2.5 degrees Celsuis. They say they used these to study crops that grew in different zones in the mountains.

De Moray volvimos los 10 Kms andando al pueblo de Maras, para disfrutar del paisaje y de la gente, en la foto una pastorcilla de 9 años que poso para nuestra camara. En la segunda foto los burros estan secando la cosecha con la ayuda de los mas jovenes de la familia, una vez que se meta el sol estos niños van a la escuela y eso que era Sabado..!

Eng: High above the valley on the way back into Maras village we saw typical native indian farmers, as it was a asaturdat many kids were out on the farm helping out.
