Colonia del Sacramento – Uruguay
Hola desde Uruguay..!
Ya que teniamos que dejar Argentina por unos dias, decidimos venir a este pueblo precioso de Uruguay para descansar, seguir viajandoy ensenaros un poco mas..y no
acabar haciendo un post del supermercado de al lado. Bienvenidos a Colonia del Sacramento. En menos de una hora, cruzando el rio de la Plata se puede visitar esta joya de pueblo.
ENG: So as not to bore you too much (you were probably thinking the next post was going to be form our local supermarket!!!) Well we took the opportunity to take a trip out of Buenos Aires and Argentina, crossing the River Plate, we added another country to the list, Uruguay, where we visited Colonia del Sacramento for weekend away! In less than an hour away by catamaran you are whisked away from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires to the small fortress town of Colonia, apparently the oldest town in Uruguay.
Nada mas llegar decidimos ir a refrescarnos a las orillas del rio de la Plata . En la foto Richi haciendo de Mama Cora en la pelicula argentina “esperando la Carroza” en su frase celebre…. “No tenia cara de mayonesaaaa”.
ENG: As soon as we arrived we dropped our gear at the hotel then headed straight for one of the many beaches along the banks of the River Plate, chilled down with a cool beer with a beautiful view of the river, and not a skyscraper in sight (B.A. beng only 40-odd km away). And there’s Richie doing his impression of Mama Cora (in Esperando la Carroza, a brilliant Argentinan comedy we got on DVD, rent it if you can find it!) “No tenia cara de mayoneeeeesa” (it didn’t look like mayonnaise, when Mama Cora decides to make creme caramel from here daughter-in-law’s recently hand-whipped homemade mayonnaise…)
Mapa de la ciudad en 1762 ni mas ni menos cuando por esta parte del mundo eran cuatro gatos. En 1680 se creo esta colonia portuguesa .Todavia se conserva perfectamente el Casco Historico que fue declarado Patrimonio Historico de la Humanidad , con sus calles adoquinadas, en la tercera foto la puerta de entrada a la ciudad.

ENG: Here’s a map of the town from 1762, really old as far as towns go in this neck of the woods. In 1860 this place was set up as a Portuguese colony and it still has perfectly preserved old town , which was delcared World Heritage Site by Unesco, with it’s cobbled streets, and in the 3rd photo the old city gate, bit heavy though for the 2 of us to lift up…

Se pueden ver muchos coches antiguos por la ciudad, y cuando ya no andan mas y los jubilan los utilizan como mesa de restaurante para una noche romantica o simplemente de maceta!! Que bueno…!
ENG: There are lots of old cars dotted around the old part of town. When they retire they get turned into a private restaurant dining area for that special romantic meal, or maybe a giant flower pot on wheels!!! Maaad wha’?!?!
Vista una playita a las orillas del rio plata, daban ganas de quedarse por aqui, y los ultimos minutos antes de que el sol nos dejase embullido por el rio…ahhh que potito!
ENG: Here’s a view of another beach on the banks of the River Plate, would be great to hang about a bit longer, lots more beaches to check out!. As we were having our dinner we had a view this beautiful sunset as the sun went down over the estuary, isn’t dat luuuuvly!!!!
Y con esta peazo puesta de sol desde el pais vecino nos despedimos, nos volveremos a ver en Buenos Aires, en el proximo post os ensenaremos mas cosas como el teatro Colon donde tuve la suerte de estudiar un taller de escenografia, y otras sorpresillas.
ENG: Well we’ll leave you with the sunset, as we end our trip to Uruguay, short but sweet! Next post we’ve got some more goodies from Buenos Aires, the Colon Theatre (Pronounced like cologne, it’s Colon as in Columbus, and not a body part!) where Quene did a course on theatrical set-design. Hi Guys,
Sorry it has been so long since I have been in touch. I have been busy with Jack starting school, Aaron having pnemonia, john being in Ireland for two weeks and bloody morning sickness. All ok now! I am 21 weeks now and look like I have eaten too much cake! We found out it is a girl so are very excited. Your sister kindly babysat for us on Friday and is looking fabulous. She has her own car now so we will hopefully see more of her. Glad to hear you are still enjoying your travels. Any plans for move on? Keep in touch.

I bet John went back for the Rugby? I bet he’s thrilled! Saw a couple of the matches here, great results. Oh and guess who’s coming to one of the ex-pat bars for Paddy’s Day? Rosanna Davison (Miss Ireland/World 2003 – Chirs de Burgh’s daughter, etc…) mad wha’? See if we can get a few snaps of her for the blog that’d be a laugh!
We’re still planning on going home someday, hehe! But when? That’s the million dollar question everyone’s asking, even my mam asked me today AGAIN! Trying to save a bit here before we head back, your money goes a long way here, so that will help in saving up a bit of dosh…
Had to visit the hospital myself last night. Got a woefully bad allergic reaction to tons of mosquito bites last night at an outdoor concert, got bit about 50 times I’d say, no joking! I ended up coming out in lots of red blotches and bumps all over my body, along with the 50 or so bites that were itchy as hell, and my head nose and mouth all swelled up like a balloon, crazy! I got a couple of jabs at the hospital (by the way no queue, was in and out in about an hour, took that long coz I went unconscious after the second jab, apparently it was a strong hit of an immune depressant. Never had anything like that happen before, thought I wasn’t allergic to anything, but now I know…! Feeling a bit better now, but still a bit groggy from the jabs…
Well that’s all (or enough!) for now.

En Ushuaia hay unos mosquitos de patas muy largas pero no pican y tampoco se los ve como en Buenos Aires. no son fáciles de ver.

I’ve already had patricks day, I went up to sydney to see Minya my house mate from percy place, you should remember her from all the parties, very pretty aussie girl? Anyways because the harbor bridge is 75 years old on saturday the had paddy’s day last sunday, needless to say its gonna be like new years eve twice in the space of a week for me and the melbourne grand prix, the world swimming championships and the melbourne air show are all on this weekend. WOHOO!!

Looks like the Aussies are quick off the mark, guess they wouldn’t want any drunken Irish louts ruining “their” 75th anniversary of the Harbour Bridge (it was probably built by Irish prisoner labour anyway!). So lots of things going on “over yonder” can’t really say “down under” as we’re under too!
Hey, went to see a Boca match the week before last, nah nah na naaahhh naaah! But they lost, the feckers, 3-0 to San Lorenzo (another B.A. team, so it was a derby so to speak). Pics coming up soon!
Lots of cool gigs coming up soon here too, just got tix for Roger Waters on the 18th i the River Plate stadium, a nice end to Paddy’s day celebration. Then there’s the Quilmes Rock Festival: Placebo, Aerosmith, Keane, Evanessence, Psychedelic Furs, can’t wait for that!
Looking forward to the big street party in town on Paddy’s day, and we’ll see if we can get a pic of Rosanna Davison doing her bit for the homeland, that’d be a laugh!

Holaaaaa Carolinaaaaaa!!
FELIZ ST PATRICKS DAY…!!!!No te preocupes que te esperaremos.. nosotros no sabemos que hacer si irnos en un par de meses o que… la verdad es que personalmente echo mucho de menos Dublin, yo aqui no encuentro trabajo, la cultura es muy similar a Espanya, incluida la dificultad de encontrar laburos…y la plata se me esta acabando…(bastante la hemos estirado con tanto viaje)..pero no queremos volver al Matrix todavia, vuelta a la rutina del 9 a 5 …los trepas pisa cabezas y la depresion del lunes….ufffff 🙁
Cambiando a un tema mas alegre.
Hoy es el dia de San Patricio estamos viendo por internet la cabalgata en Dublin y oyendo las noticias y nos esta entrando la morrinya, echamos de menos a nuetros amigos alli… aqui casi no conocemos a nadie despues de 5 meses.

Salimos en dos periodicos y ahora baajaremos a por los de papel, en el segundo link nos dieron latas VACIAS de cerveza para tomar la foto… de locos!!
Chicos el link de arriba es el de uno de los periodicos de Argentina, anoche para celebrar San Patricio nos pusimos las pelucas y el maquillaje y nos fuimos a la fiesta que se celebraba en la calle… nos rodearon mas de 15 periodistas y hasta camaras de tv… y saldremos en un programa la semana que viene, pero no tenemos el canal (Canal America el sabado que viene a las 12 de la noche hora Argentina GMT+3) fue muy divertido casi surrealista con tanta camara y flash alrededor.
Ya haremos un especial St Patricio que adelantaremos, para que os echeis unas risas..!! Estamos buscando por si salimos en otro periodico…jejeje!!

El dia de San Patricio es el patron de Irlanda, la gente se viste de verde y hay fiesta.. cualquier excusa para una fiesta… en San Patricio todo el mundo se vuelve irlandes.Ya estoy preparando las fotos para hacer el post del Colon..
Las fotos que hicimos en San Patricio no tienen desperdicio estan muy divertidas,tanto que ibamos a adelantar las fotos de San Patricio a las del Colon, pero seguiremos con el orden temporal de las fotos…
Por cierto estan echando el Turandot por la tele..que casualidad… a ver si James suelta el laptop y puedo hacer el post en los siguientes dias..

No towels at all, we could have done with some when we got there as we were soaked in sweat after running the last 1km to get to the stadium, roads were closed off etc… bus was late and left it a bit late too… hungover from Paddy’s Day didn’t help.
Yea, Puma still reminds us when ever we take the bus from that “bus stop”… priceless!

La verdad que todos los St Patricks days son clasicos… pero yo creo que este un poquito mas..
Uno lo celebramos en Andorra 04 hace tres, el anyo pasado en Auckland (cuando U2 cancelo el concierto alli ese dia..snif snif) y este con las pelucas , los gorros , las pestanyas postizasy los 15 paparazzi alrededor fue un desmadre.
A ver si el anyo que viene lo podemos celebrar juntas.. en cualquier parte del mundo…( Menos en Marruecos aparentemente..juas!)

ya esta bien, aunque un poco emparanoiado cada vez que ve un mosquito. El Dengue ya a llegado a Argentina y a Uruguay pero todavia no hay casos en BsAs, (toquemos madera).

Chicos, nos estamos dando cuenta que de vez en cuando gente nos va robando fotos de nuestro viaje (el blog registra cuando una foto de aqui esta en otra pagina)
El caso que nosotros estamos pensando, que no estamos cobrando por todo este tiempo (lo estamos haciendo para vosotros familias y amiguetes y futuros nietos…jejeje) , no es justo que otros esten sacando beneficio.
Una pregunta al aire, sabe alguien que se puede hacer en estos casos…??
Gente ajena esta haciendo su viaje y colocando fotos del nuestro.
Sabriamos que esto pasaria mas tarde o mas temprano…en fin
Bueno quien sepa de leyes del copyright por internet que nos mande unas lineas.
Por cierto hoy se conmemora 31 anyos del golpe de estado en Argentina 24 de Marzo de 1976 y la desaparicion de 30.000 jovenes ( cada gol que Argentina metia en el mundial de futbol ese famoso ocultaba los horrores de esa epoca ) y que ahora esos jovenes desaparecidos tendrian la edad de nuestros padres.
Ya oimos los tambores y la gente en la calle, van a ir de Congreso a la plaza de Mayo, y la 9 de Julio ya se esta llenando de gente.
A ver si salen fotos buenas y os las podemos ensenar..

Ya estamos preparando el post del Colon, calentito ya saliendo del horno, el que no os teneis que perder es el de san Patricio..que es uno de los momentos mas divertidos y surrealistas (con los paparazzi y la tv) de todo el viaje….Estoy por ponerme la peluca mas a menudo.!!! jajajaja
Una critica….. Colonia del Sacramento NO ES UN PUEBLITO!!!! si bien no es una gran cuidad, tampoco es un pueblito.
Andres, hemos dicho pueblo, no pueblito, pero veniendo desde Buenos Aires si que tiene aspecto de un lugar muy tranquilo, como un pueblo. Lo sentimos si te hemos ofendido!
Lo que pasa en espanol no existe un equivalente directa al inglés ‘town’, que ni es ciudad (city) ni pueblo (village)…
