The road is long!! But how long?
So my two leg trip of South East Asia and then the USA took me the total of 123 days on the road to complete. Seeing some of the most unbelievable and amazing things. Meeting more amazing people in those 123 days than I had probably met in the last 10 years and of course meeting my special friend Cathy who made the USA road trip possible and so much fun.
It is now funny to think that the guys I did the USA road trip with being Cathy from LA and Nick from Australia between us all had completly different upbringings on three different continants but yet we ended up together on an unforgetable road trip. I guess this is one of the beauties of travel and the reason I have the bug now in such a big way. I find it alittle sad to think it is all over for the time being and the three of us are yet again all in different time zones again. Without the thought of a future trip I think I would go insane to be honest.
Being home feels strange, not having to pack and unpack the old backpack on a regular basis. It also gives you a new perspective on distance i.e I have only been to Scotland once in my life and would not really normally think of driving there because it was “too far away”. After travelling as much as I have and now seeing that say Glasgow is only a mere 280 miles away it seems mad that I have never been there.
So as I have too much time on my hands now I thought it to be a good idea to work out exactly how far I had travelled in the 123 days I was away, It goes like this:
Birmingham – London 113 miles
London – Abu Dahbi 3410 miles
Abu Dahbi – Bangkok 3080 miles
Bangkok – Chiang Mai 366 miles
Chiang Mai – Bangkok 366 miles
Bangkok – Surat Thani – Koh Phangan 280 miles
Koh Phangan – Koh Samui 20 Miles
Koh Samui – Surat Thani – Bangkok 300 Miles
Bangkok – Poipet 220 miles
Poipet – Siem Reap 47 miles
Siem Reap – Phnom Penh 147 miles
Phnom Penh – Ho Chi Minh City 133 miles
Ho Chi Minh – Nha Trang 207 miles
Nha Trang – Hoi Ann 252 miles
Hoi Ann – Hue 66 miles
Hue – Hanoi 336 miles
Hanoi – Halong Bay – Cat Ba Island 115 miles
Halong Bay – Hanoi 95 miles
Hanoi – Beijing 2060 Miles (40 hours on a train )
Beijing – Bangkok 2060 miles
Bangkok – Surat Thani – Ko Phangan 280 miles
Ko Phangan – Bangkok 280 Miles
Bangkok – Abu Dahbi 3080 miles
Abu Dahbi – London 3410 miles
London – Birmingham 113 miles
Total 20186 miles in 89 days.
Leg 2:
Birmingham – New York 3000 miles
New York – Maple Shade, New Jersey 84.5 miles
Maple Shade, New Jersey – Washington Dc 149 Miles
Washington Dc – Virginia Beach, Virginia 208 miles
Virginia Beach – Cary, North Carolina 211 miles
Cary – Mount Pleasant, South Carloina 292.5 miles
Mt Pleasant – Tampa, Florida 444 miles
Tampa – Miami 280 miles
South Beach Miami – Key West – Tampa 430 miles
Tampa – Los Angeles 2531 miles
LA – San Francisco 382 miles
SF – Lake Tahoe 209 miles
Tahoe – San Francisco 209miles
SF – LA 382 miles
LA – Las Vegas, Nevada 270 Miles
Vegas – Grand Canyon, Arizona 276 miles
Grand Canyon – LA 490 miles
LA – Dublin – Birmingham 5250 miles
15098 miles in 34 days
Then giving a total total 35281 miles in 123 days. Which equates to obscene average 286.67 miles travelled per day over the 123 days, that’s why I was tired, it makes sense now. If I could start it all again 2moro I would!!!!!!!

Good to see you are back online on the blog. You won’t stay still for long. That spiders Mum is probably still looking for you in Asia… rematch! So you need to make a shed-load of money fast to go travelling again. Male escort? Chat-line from home? Put it all on a horse? Don’t sell your pad whatever you do.
