September 11, 2004Prep III: To panic or not to panic?
Finally my plane tickets are on their way. They'll arrive Monday. At first glance it seems I shouldn't panic, however I have so many other things on my mind that I am starting to get really punchy. I have been getting all my personal belongings out of my apartment. Obviously it's taking much longer than I thought it would. All the furniture is gone so I get to sleep on the floor for the next few nights. Maybe it's a good thing to start getting used to uncomfortable sleeping arrangements. This afternoon I felt the heat draining all my energy and couldn't continue do run around outside, so once again I have not finished moving when I was hoping to be. I traded in my duffel bag for a wheeled bag. I think that it's the way to go. The bag, when full, weighs about 60 lbs or so, yet at the handle it feels like 15 lbs. I got worried again when I found out on the Air NZ website that my bag is too large to be a regular checked luggage. After 30 minutes on hold an Air NZ representative told me that I would "probably" be fine, as long as I don't exceed the weight limit of 70 lbs. Also, the ski box counts as a regular checked bag. This means that if I manage to cram everything into my big bag and my ski box, and keep my big bag under 70 lbs then I won't have any excess baggage penalty to pay. That would be excellent but difficult to achieve because of the size and weight restrictions imposed on carry-ons. I won't be able to use my carry-on as an "overflow" bag like I was hoping to do. An extra checked-in luggage item is 80 $US. I was asked earlier if I was "going to make it." A loud resounding "yes, I am going to make it" is my response. It's just a matter of how stylishly it's going to happen. Everywhere I look in my apartment there is junk, stuff, and just general non-cleanliness. Somehow by Tuesday everything has got to be spic and span for the next resident. I look at my packing situation and I don't know how I am going to make it happen. I look at my to-do list, ever so long, and I wonder how I'll find the time. Then I look at the time I've spent writing this entry and I think: "You fool!" Comments
