August 07, 2004Woooooo Hoooooo!!!
For my last day in Swakopmund, I went sandboarding and 4 wheeling. FUN! I've never sandboarded, or snowboarded before, so there was a little lesson, and then I was on my own. It was fun, outside of having to climb back up the dune after every run, but I couldn't get used to going so fast. Plus, one of the girls in our group had a HUGE wipeout, so it had me a little timid. I don't think I'm even moving at all in this picture. :) I also tried the lie down boards, which is basically sledding - at 60 kph. After a few times down the dune, I think a better description for it would be - "eating sand." But the real fun began in the afternoon with the ATV's. There were 4 groups of us. The "maniacs on manuals" (who were going up and down dunes that the automatics couldn't climb), the fast, medium, slow, and scenic. I was in the fast group and geez, was it fast! We pretty much went wide open throttle the entire time and weaved up and down and around the dunes. It was a ton of fun, I could have done it all day! The dunes were gorgeous, not like anything I've ever seen before. We drove up to a high point near the coast and watched the sunset from there over the ocean. Comments
You look like such a natural on that ATV- I think I know your first purchase when you get back to the States (of course after Taco Bell)...
