November 25, 2005I am a big pussy
I remember my arrival last year. I remember being awed and confused by the fact that people here were bundled up in scarves, hats and gloves when it was like 50 degrees outside. There I was walking around in a t-shirt and jeans and these people looked like they just got off a boat from the Artic Circle. People wearing shirts, with sweaters on top and then a jacket. I thought they were insane. I grew up in New Jersey. Itīs not the Yukon Territory but I was used to cold winters and some snow. Not anymore. Iīve been freezing my ass off and itīs only been like 50 degrees. Last year I would have my window open for fresh air. Now, Iīm yelling at my roommates if they leave the door open a crack in the TV room. I have started actually turning the heat on!!! I am counting the hours until my friend Scott arrives tomorrow with my winter coat and gloves from home. Iīve been wearing a hat every day. I havenīt shaved this week hoping for some extra warmth. Letting my hair grow longer for the same. Iīve been wearing two pairs of socks and long johns. Itīs just not working. Somehow I have acclimated. Now, that doesnīt seem that bad, right? Right. Not really a huge problem except for the fact that I am going home for Christmas for two weeks in December and January. It will be nice and bitterly cold. And there is already snow on the ground there already...Iīm screwed and a pussy. Comments
I read your homeless person article after a drunk experience i had with a homeless person on the streets of madrid at 4am. i gave him 2 euros and kept telling him in spanish "your life is important and tomorrow will be a better day". then and there we embraced in 4 consecutive man hugs. he tried to give me a wet one on the cheek but that crossed the line for me.
