Update News Years Day

Happy New Year to all of you! This is Achim writing. You guys must wonder what’s going on. Basically no network in the middle of Africa. Just got a call from Jaimi for a couple of minutes. 3rd day of climbing or shall we say hiking? They are now up on 3900m (for the Americans, please figure out yourself what this is in feet). Everything is great: legs work great (no surprise to me. I keep telling Jaimi that she has strong legs), they get a lot of good food, multiple times tea per day, and even more often the opposite of drinking .. not to mention the air release (you know what I mean). This is a sign that they are adjusting very well to the altitude and almost no headache. Well, no surprise too as they are not getting any booze up there.

So, no worries. I will update the blog as soon as I hear back from them.

Woohoo! Happy New Year Summit Sistas! I also just talked to Jaimi and they are having a blast. She said they are still terrified about the big ascent to the top but are having way more fun than they ever expected and feeling great. Jill, of course, is worried about her animals but happy to hear that Genevieve has moved into the living room to watch TV. But back to the climb. They say they are living in Cyrus City: three tents go up every day, a sleeping tent, a dining tent (though the weather has been cooperating for breakfast outside in the sun), and a toilet tent. Yes, even a chemical toilet. And every night they get a multi-course meal. How do these guys carry all the stuff? Jaimi says the porters carry about 18 Kilos (about 40 pounds) on their heads and another 18 on their backs. And then they hike all day! Incredible. Yes, she is taking pictures of this.

They are close to 12,000 feet now and did an acclimitization hike to about 13,000 (up and back down). Still a long ways to go but I am so happy they are having fun and feeling well! You go, girls!
