Travel Diary

Monteverde is a high cloud forest location in Costa Rica. We drove along a very long dirt track going up into higher altitude till we arrives at Santa Elena. Santa Elena reminded me of one of those old gold rush towns in the mountains. The views were spectacular of thwe surrounding cloud forest. The cafes and shops are relatively expensive because they are catering mostly to gringos.

The air up there is cooler than down below and there is more rain, at least that was the case when we were there. The place is bristling with tour agencies and the dirt streets are bustling with four wheelers driven by adventurous gringos.
