Pyjama fashion hits the streets of Shanghai

It's cool, it's hip, it's Asia: I LOVE this region!

What mysterious forces drive this phenomenon, I can't say. All I can tell you is that we've seen it time and time again in Asia. From Vietnam to Thailand to China, 'Pyjama Fashion' is da bomb.

Never before have I seen it accessorised with putty-pink high heeled shoes, though. Now there's something worth remarking on!

Carrie Bradshaw eat your heart out: all those feisty, ubercute outfits with outrageous detailing look as conservative as corporate pinstripes next to this kind of audacity.

1pm, downtown Shanghai, texting a friend whilst out shopping:

YES!!! I remember seeing that pyjama thing and wondering what was up. My first pyjama sightings were of older folks. They were strolling with family members about a block or so from a large hospital so naturally I thought these nice ambulatory folks were out for some spring air.

Loved the photo.

Ha! I am perversely glad to hear that I'm not the only one to have noticed this phenomenon! It's so surreal that it's tempting to think, 'did I REALLY see that?'

Hi Tiffany,

I have a travel question - would you fly China Air? Have you ever flown China Air? Any recommendations or comments?

Air China - haven't flown them, but have heard (surprisingly) good things about their International services - tres modern planes, excellent in-flight service & all the mod cons. As to whether that's all just window-dressing, I'm not sure ... but yes, I would fly them.

Domestically, Chinese airlines are perhaps more touch-and-go - but I have to say that the one flight we've taken this time (Xiamen Airlines) was great: again, very modern, reasonable service, nothing amiss at all.

Even in the four short years since we were here last, the Chinese airline industry has certainly picked up its game A LOT! Four years ago, the one flight we took seemed like dodginess-central - everyone climbered straight on the plane, reclined their seats to make them as bed-like as possible (whilst also trying to smoke) and then point-blank refused to put the seat-backs upright for take-off. It was bedlam! The inflight snack came in a little silver pouch with 'This is Foods' as its logo. While that story is NOTHING compared to stories of flying here in the 'bad old days', I have to say that Chinese airlines circa 2005 are looking a whole lot better than circa 2001 :)
