February 24, 2005An apology to my Grandma
I got to speak to my Grandma the other morning, as our room in Singapore had that rarity - an actual phone. She expressed concern that every time she checks the blog, 'it seems to be all about food!' This forced me to come clean and confess something: food sucks most of the time when you travel. I jest not. I'm not certain that I've had any of my all-time Top Five meals when travelling, but I've sure as hell had my Top Five Worst-Ever. If I blogged our daily food intake on a strictly 'full disclosure' basis, there'd be a truckload of talk about shitty sweet biscuits that taste of nothing in particular, bad renditions of European food (or 'Eourpn Fod' as one sign here in Jakarta would have it: thereby violating the time-honoured rule of 'Can't spell it? DON'T cook it!'), really bland versions of Asian food, and some crap fruit that we got swindled when buying. That, plus Maccas on occasion is pretty much the backpacker diet. Thus, when something exciting happens in the world of food, you WILL be informed! Posted by Tiffany on February 24, 2005 11:34 PM
