July 20, 2004Lhasa
Although it feels like I haven't slept for days, Judy and I have been running all over Lhasa today. We arrived at noon, after getting up for our flight at 4 am. The first sight you see when you enter Lhasa is a lot of white-tile Chinese architecture. It's actually sort of depressing. But then suddenly our bus turned a corner and the Potala Palace came into view. Although surrounded by Chinese style one-story stores, there isn't much that can take away from the amazing sight of the red and white palace. We have really been moving slowly today. After our four day tour to Jiuzhaigou in northern Sichuan, with a tour guide who got us up at 5:50 am every day, I feel like I need some time to recuperate. But we have to speed through Lhasa to do what we want to do in Tibet before we fly out on July 30. So we havent seen too much yet. We're still looking for an ATM that works, and then I know I want to go to bed early. Hopefully I will have another update soon... Comments
