Day off!

So I got up at 9:30 this morning (as in before it got dark out) and wore my hair down. The result being: I sunburned my part. That’ll teach me.

I ran errands this morning (I was oh so productive) and then went to the National museum (the archeaology wasn’t particularly interesting, except for one viking skull with more than 20 sword cuts in it) BUT they had a whole exhibit on the bog men!! It was so, so cool. Unfortunately I couldn’t take photos, but you can see some of it here:

It was very cool. One of them (the decapitated torso) had been preserved in such a way that the skin was almost iridescent. And – I had started my Irish murder mystery today, which centers around a corpse found in a bog!

After that I went back to the national gallery to finish the top floor that I didn’t get to the first time. I saw a good vermeer (woman writing a letter), some Irish portraits (I liked the one on the original Irish bank notes of the 1920s and the one of Bono). I also went to the special exhibit, which was scenes of Irish social life, which was kind of a mixed bag. Then I went to see Pan’s labyrinth, which was really good, but more of fascist spain and less of the labyrinth than I was expecting. It was nice to hear spanish though. I also saw tons of movie posters in the theaters for films I have not seen the trailers for. *sigh* to think there was a time when that would not have been the case. I also saw a poster for Dhoom 2, which I wanted to go see with Kristl, but it seems to have left the theater. I was also thinking about getting rugby tix for her and me and Hayden for Xmas, but I have been having trouble getting them. Hmm… she comes back from India in a couple of days – I have to figure something out.

New Years wasn’t too bad (aside from the cleanup). I got to work the back bar most of the night. Pat screamed at me for no good reason (what kind of STUPID owner yells at his employees in a place that is amazingly understaffed – hmmm here’s a thought – treat your employees better and maybe they wouldn’t all leave). We gave out sparkly hats and confetti close to midnight. I managed to sell 2 bottles of champagne to 1 guy, who didn’t come back for the 2nd bottle, so the staff appropriated it afterwards.  Monday was quiet, although I had to work with Gavin, and I was so happy to be out of there I nearly ran home when John told me I could take off. I got some good photos around town today, although I still dislike obviously taking photos of touristy looking buildings. Ah well. I’ll drag Kristl with me at some point to go take photos of all the old buildings around Nassau and O’Connell. Oh – I think I forgot to mention how cool seeing some of the grounds of trinity was when we went to Kristl’s concert. And – Trinity’s chapel she sang in! Half the time, I am more fascinated by the interiors of where I am than what I’m suppossed to be paying attention to (the 3rd rate alto at the messiah). But the national concert hall, and the interior hall for the National museum today all have the most beautiful architecture. I couldn’t take any photos (prohibited) but the laticework in the museum today was really incredible.

I feel like I haven’t really written much about daily Irish life. I keep thinking of little things I mean to write down in here when I’m out walking around, and I never remember when I actually find a computer. I may now be able to remember 20 drinks at a time, but the rest of my memory is going.
