Paraty

Hola desde Paraty, una pequeña ciudad colonial approx 250km al sur este de Sao Paulo, declarada Patrimonio Historico Nacional por su preservacion de sus monumentos, edificios y fuerte personalidad de la ciudad, caminar por el casco historico es como viajar en el tiempo e imaginarse como se vivia en Brasil en esa epoca (no hay coches en sus calles y todad las casas son de estilo colonial con simbolos masonicos), fundada en el siglo XVII fue muy importante economicamente por la caña de azucar y ser el link entre la provincia de Minas Gerais y el Atlantico para transportar oro y piedras preciosas…cuando los piratas supieron de esta ruta el camino del Oro cambio originando un declive de la ciudad hasta ahora.

ENG: Óla from Paraty, a small colonial town, approx 250km southeast of Sao Paulo, declared National Heritage Site due to its great state of preservation, the monuments, buildings and the personality of the town. Founded in the 17th Century as an important port for sugar cane and also gold and precious stones from the inland state of Minas Gerais to the north. The town experienced a downturn when pirates discovered the Gold Trail.

No tuvimos mucha suerte con el tiempo (esto ya no es una novedad !!) pero al menos pudimos disfrutar 5 dias de la tranquilidad del lugar. ENG: As usual, we had terrible luck with the weather, but at least we could enjoy the tranquility of the area for the 5 days we spent there. Una de las muchas cosas que se puede hacer aqui es hacer un tour por las islas en barco asi que aprovechamos el primer dia antes de que empeorase el tiempo. Tambien se puede visitar otras playas donde habitaban piratas como Trinidade o hacer caminatas por Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina.

ENG: One of the most popular trips is a schooner trip around the bay, stopping a some of the many islands and beaches along the coast that can only be reached by boat. Trinidade once a heaven for pirates, is now home to many a surfer, it´s got a real laid back feel, and plenty of beaches and hiking trails in the rainforest.

ENG: Here´s James as captain, you can tell we miss the shannon cruise days, but at least we have the same cloudy sky to remind us of home!!!

Rio de Janeiro

Dice la historia que unos marineros portugueses llegaron a sus costas el 1 de Enero de 1502, pensaron que era un gran Rio lo llamaron Rio de Janeiro, capital de Brasil hasta 1960 actualmente es Brasilia . Aqui viven 6 millones de Cariocas , famoso por sus playas de Ipanema , Copacabana y por su puesto sus fiestas de Carnaval, de fin de año y el Cristo Redentor cuidando de la ciudad desde el Corcovado. En la foto James en la playa de Copacabana Rio…en los unicos rayitos de sol que pudimos ver en una semana.

ENG: The story goes that some portuguese sailors arrived here on the 1st of January in 1502, thinking that the bay was a river, they named it Rio de Janeiro (River of January in portuguese). Capital of Brasil until 1960, when Brasilia became the capital. There are approximately 6million Cariocas living here. the city is famous for its beaches, the most famous being Ipanema and Copacabana, also famous for its Carnival, Ney Years Celebrations, oh the Christ the Redeemer statue watching over the city from high up on Mt Corcovado. Here´s James on Copacabana Beach, enjoying some of the very few sun´s rays we got to see in the entire week we spent there! The second photo you can see the Sugar Loaf at the end of the beach. Hay un cafe en Ipanema donde Vinicius de Moraes poeta y compositor escribio su cancion mas famosa no solo en Brasil si no en todo el mundo : La garota de Ipanema . en la foto una copia de la cancion esta en la pared del cafe. en las demas fotos una foto de la playa de Ipanema, hacer fotos aqui tiene su riesgo asi que literalmente sacamos la camara, hicimos la foto y la volvimos a guardar. Sobre el anochecer salen bandas de chicos para robar todo lo que puedan.

ENG: There´s a cafe in Ipanema, where Vinicius de Moraes, poet and composer wrote the world famous song “The Girl from Ipanema”. There´s a copy of the song on the wall outside. The next photo is a view of Ipanema Beach, it can be risky taking out your camera, anywhere in Rio, a local told us to be careful, one portuguese tourist was killed for his camera a few weeks back, guuulllllp…. So one quick snap, and back into the bag! At sunset, groups of young teenagers go around the city, stealing anything they can…

En Paraty conocimos a Alejandro y Lucia, de Buenos Aires, ellos tienen familia en Rio, y alquilaron un piso en el mismo edificio donde viev la familia, al fin y al cabo hicimos lo mismo, porque era mas barato alquilar un piso, con tv, cocina y todo, que dormir en un hostal, en una habitacion enana, sin baño, los pobres backpackers, a veces le toman mucho el pelo!!!! Por la noche tuvimos la suerte de salir con Fabiana (la hermana de Alejandro) y Juan que nos enseñaron los sitios por donde salen los Cariocas: La Lapa donde nos marcamos unas sambas y hasta vios amanecer a los pies del Pao de Açucar justo el dia que comenzaba la Primavera por aqui abajo. En la foto un ejemplo de los peazo de edificios en el centro, y el la otra foto el Museo do Arte Contemporaneo echo por el arquitecto Niemeyer, llovia tanto que la plataforma para subir parecia un tobogan de un acuopolis de esos y no nos dejaron subir hasta que mejoro el tiempo.. nos calamos hasta las cejas.

ENG: In Paraty we met a couple from Buenos Aires, Alejandro and Lucia, they have family in Rio, and they rented an apartment in the same building as their family. In the end we decided to do the same, after spending one night in a grotty hostel, in a tiny room, with no bathroom, the apartment, with tv, kitchen and bathroom costs less than the hostel, those poor backpackers are being ripped off…!!! On Friday noght, we were taken into town with Fabiana (Alejandro´s sister) and Juan, they took us to La Lapa, home to Rio´s nightlife, a thumping place jam packed with locals, and samba blaring out onto the streets. After that we went to Praia Vermelha, at the foot of the Sugar Loaf, to watch the sunrise over Rio, and that was the 1st day of spring here in the southern hemisphere! In the photos you can see an example of the city centre´s massive skyskrapers. The other photo is the Museum of Contemporary Art accross the bay in Niteroi. The flying saucer shaped building was designed by Niemeyer, a very unique Brazilian architect. Oh, it was raining so much that the entrance ramp up into the saucer was like a water slide, so they closed the entrance temporarily, until the weather improved…we got drenched waiting!!!!

A pesar del mal tiempo no podiamos dejar Rio sin subir a ver al Cristo Redentor e intentar ver las impresionantes vistas de la ciudad desde el Corcovado.. lo maximo que aguantamos fueron 15 minutos, para no coger una pulmonia… fue una pena, inagurado en 1931 despues de 5 años de construccion, tiene 30 metros de altura y 28 m de embergadura desde aqui se ve toda la ciudad desde los 709 metros sobre el nivel del mar en el que esta ubicado.

ENG: Despite the bad weather, a rip to rio wouldn´t be complete without a trip up the Corcovado mountain to see the Christ The Redeemer statue and take in the impressive views of the city below. We managed to stay a whopping 15 minutes up there, it was very windy and a lot colder than the city below. It was a pity, as the views could have been amazing! The statue was built in 1931 after 5 years of construction, 30m high, and 28m wide, and at 709 metres above sea level, you can see the entire city from up here. desde alli se ven las favelas mas famosas de Rio que esperamos visitar a la vuelta.

Y eso es todo por ahora.. todavia tenemos muchas cosas por enseñaros … Como ya sabeis , el viaje deberia haberse acabado ayer Lunes 1 de Octubre pero decidimos seguir la aventura y ver si en Brasil realmente hace sol o es solo mitologia…para atraer turistas.. jejeje

ENG: Well, that´s it for now, still got lots of things to show you. And as most of you know, the year trip was supposed to end yesterday 1st of October, but we´ve decided to extend the adventure, and keep going, and see if it´s ever sunny in Brasil or it´s just a myth to bring thr tourists here!!! Hehehehe….
