The Spider/La Araña

Nasca, situado en el desierto, famoso por las lineas de Nazca, alrededor de 300 figuras y lineas dibujadas en el desierto, van desde figuras de animales de 45 m de largo a trapecios y triangulos de varios Kms de largo. Fueron descubiertas por Maria Reiche una cientifica alemana, estuvo estudiandolas 40 años hasta su muerte en 1998, hay muchas teorias sobre estas lineas, Maria Reiche creia que los Nazcas, una civilizacion pre-inca las construyeron como calendario astrologico y como mapa de las constelaciones. Y en las fotos podreis ver las lineas mas famosas (no fue facil hacer las fotos en la avioneta…!!!) La araña, el colibri, el par de manos y el hombre buho (o astronauta).

ENG: Nasca, situated in the desert is most famous for the Nasca Lines, several hundred figures drawn on the desert floow, of varying sizes and shapes, ranging from animal representations from 45 metres in length to triangular shapes several kilometres long! German researcher Maria Reiche is famous for having spent 40 years studying the lines, along with several other researchers, there are as many theories as to the function of the lines, ranging from Pre-Inca ceremonial pathways to astrological calendar to alien spaceship landing strips/runways! Esta es una vista del Valle de Nazca desde el avion. Y esta peazo luna la pudimos ver en el Planetario de Maria Reiche, donde te explican sus teorias astrologicas sobre las lineas y te enseñan las constelaciones mas importantes del Hemisferio Sur y hasta Jupiter con sus lunas..increible!!

ENG: Here’s a view of the Nasca Valley. And a close up of the moon taken from a telescope at the Maria Reiche Planetarium where they explain her astrological theories on the Nasca lines. They also showed us the more important constelations in the Southern Hemisphere we even saw Jupiter and its moons.

Al sur de Nazca 1.5 kms aprox estan los restos de la civilizacion Nazca (300AC – 700DC) en el cementerio de Chauchilla, estas momias se han conservado perfectamente todo este tiempo gracias al clima del desierto. Hay mas de 500 momias enterradas en estas tierras y pertenecian a un nivel social alto de la sociedad Nazca, desgraciadamente muchas de ellas, las sabotearon y se pueden ver huesos alrededor del cementerio.

ENG: About 1.5 hrs drive south of Nasca are the remnants of the Nasca civilisation (300BC-700AD) Chauchilla Cemetery. Due to the very dry climate of the Nasca desert, the mummies (from 500AD-700AD) are in very well preserved. Most of the mummies buried here (approx 500 mummies) would have been from the higher levels of the Nasca society.

Despues de Nazca fuimos a Arequipa, la segunda ciudad mas grande de Peru con 1 millon de Arequipeños. Situada en un area volcanico, casi todas sus principales construcciones estan hechas de piedra volcanica blanca, y sus construcciones coloniales la hacen muy vistosa. En la foto se puede ver al Misti , un volcan de 5200m detras de la Catedral (tantas veces reconstruida tras varios terremotos, ultimo destruyo la ciudad en el 2001). La siguiente es la casa Del Moral (ehhhhhh..!! 🙂 ) Llamado asi por el arbol que tiene en su patio y no por el apellido.. Es de las pocas construcciones del siglo XVIII que siguen en pie y estan tan bien conservadas.

ENG: Arequipa in the South is Peru’s second largest city, of approx 1 million Arequipeños. Situated in a highly volcanic area, many of the city’s fine buildings are built using sillar rock, a white volcanic rock. Here you can see the mighty Misti Volcano 5200m above sea level with the amasingly restored cathedral in the foreground. Most of Arequipa, including the cathedral was levelled by a massive earthquake in 2001. Next is the Casa Del Moral, Quene’s new house! It’s named after the Blackberry tree in the courtyard, which is Moral in Spanish! The dorway is ornately sculpted, like many of the wealthy households that were built in the 18th century.

Estando en Arequipa uno de los lugares mas tipicos a visitar es el Gran Cañon del Colca a 180 Kms de Arequipa. ( 5 horas en bus por carreteras de arena), uno de los mas profundos del mundo, decidimos hacer una caminata de 3 dias por esta maravilla. La parte mas alta del Cañon esta a 3800msnm y la base del Cañon a 2500m. Fue la caminata mas dura que hemos hecho hasta ahora , la bajada durante 4 horas te hace añicos las rodillas, y la subida los pulmones y el corazon, debido a las cuestas y el terreno..pero las vistas fueron increibles. Dormimos 2 noches en pueblos pequeñitos San Juan y el Oasis de SanGalle, sin electricidad pero con la peazo luna que nos toco no hacia falta ni linterna. Fue muy duro ..pero somos unos campeones no??

ENG: About 180km (or 5hours by bus on mostly dirt roads!!!) lies the awesome Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. We deciced on a 3day hike down into the canyon and back up again! The rim of the canyon is about 3800m above sea level and the base of the canyon about 2500m. It was a tough hike down (and back up) the very steep walls of the canyon, but the views were amazing! We stayed 2 nights down in the base of the canyon, one night in a small village San Juan, with no electricity, just candle light and lots of blankets to keep warm, it gets verrrry cold at night at these altitudes, around 0’C!!!! Oh day 2 ended with a great dip in one of the pools at the oasis of San Galle! The bus back was jam packed, full of hikers and locals alike!
