November 08, 2003Saturday at the Market
Ta (Shamus' wife, who's Thai) and I went to the main market in Bangkok. We spent hours walking through it, and still didn’t see it all. There were so many tiny stalls – clothes, food, shoes, blankets, plants, statues, baskets… everything imaginable. Hello Kitty wallets next to a stall with Buddha statues next to a stall with tank tops that read “Pop Star” in silver sequins. I got a pair of Teva knock-offs for $10. Couldn’t bring myself to buy anything else. From what I gather from people familiar with Thailand as well as various guidebooks, everything’s much more expensive in Bangkok than elsewhere. Besides, the few items of clothing I was interested in were way, WAY to small on me. A girl with shoulders like mine is simply not compatible with the clothing available here where a size 0 is standard. Comments
